AP Credits for UC Davis

I just learned that UC Davis will not allow AP credits for the completion of GE requirements with the exception of English Composition according to this site

I am an incoming freshmen and majoring in Electrical Engineering. I took some AP exams in the past with passing scores of 3 or higher in Biology, World History, Calculus BC and this year I will be taking the AP macroeconomics, microeconomics, and Statistics exams.

Since UC Davis does not accept AP credit for the completion of GE requirements and the requirements for my major requires a lot of engineering specific classes and not classes such as art and humanities etc., does that mean that it would not matter if I took the AP exams or not in regards to any kind of progression at Davis.

(I am aware that you can skip some courses with a passing score such as Calculus BC. My main concern is that AP exams that have nothing to do with my major such as Biology or microeconomics will not have any effect on me in regards to being closer to completing my degree in any way.)

Will this be the case or is there something more?

My older S, a current Freshman at UCD, took 7 AP classes which he passed with 4 and 5’s and got out of no classes including his GE’s and 1 for his major: Environmental Science (scored a 5). You will get credit for the classes in terms of units, he got 35 units coming in but he still has to take all the required GE’s and pre-requisites for his major. The units you get from the AP’s will give a earlier priority for registration but that is about it. As of Winter Quarter, he has Sophomore standing.
My younger S will be attending SDSU this Fall and it looks like he will be able to by pass at least 2-3 classes due to his AP exams. The Cal States seem more generous on allowing you to skip classes.
