AP Credits

So... how does UIUC treat AP credits....

Say im going in for engineering (if that matters)

What happens if i get 5's or 4's on my AP Calc BC / AP Econ tests? they mean anything? or does everyone have to take the placement test and go from then anyways?

5 in Calculus BC = 8 credits for Calc I and II, take Calc III
4 or 5 in Micro = 3 credits for micro
4 or 5 in Macro = 3 credits for macro

so 4 in bc calc means nothing?

For engineering students, a 4 in Calc BC still gives you credit for Calc I and II, but they encourage you to retake Calc II.

A 3 in Calc BC with an AB subscore of 4 or 5 gives you 5 credits for Calc I.

How do you choose your classes before the AP scores are released? If the answer is to estimate, what if your estimates are wrong?

You estimate your grade and sign up for classes during summer orientation. If your estimate is wrong, you can change your schedule before classes start (and even up to a few weeks after that). I think you can get your scores by phone on July 1 for a small fee, so I would recommend doing that so you can change classes if necessary before they fill up.
