Okay, so I’ll be a freshman this year and I’m thinking about taking AP CS but I’m not sure. I have some programming experience in JS and Python (and HTML and CSS) but I’m worried it won’t be enough. I want to major in CS so I feel like it would look bad to get less than a 5 on the AP test. Has anybody here taken AP CS as a freshman? What was it like?
What does your guidance counselor think? They will have seen if other freshman with or without CS experience have done this and how well they have done in the class.
Why take it as a freshman? are there other classes you would take after?
I would concentrate on taking honors classes and doing well.
AP Comp Sci isn’t too hard, especially with a bit of prior experience, you should be fine.
Are there CS classes you can take after AP CS at your school?
I would talk with the teacher (or have a parent email the teacher) and ask whether freshmen historically get 5s on the test at this school. There is a wide variation in teacher quality for AP CS; do you know anything about how this teacher is?
