Sorry if this isn't in the correct place, I'm new here.

I just wanted to get some opinions. I got a 4.0 freshmen year, and a 4.17 sophomore year, and am now heading into Junior year. I am having a hard time deciding whether or not to take APUSH and AP LIT next year, or just take Honors. I'm also taking Honors chem. and pre-calc.

I am looking into applying for UCLA, I would want to major in film.

I personally don't see the incentives for taking the AP courses, as I wouldn't want to take the tests, and I don't plan on majoring in anything close to either of these classes.

I also don't want to come off as a slacker for taking AP one year, getting an A, but bowing out the next.

Just a note, at my high school I can't take just one of those courses. You either take both AP courses or neither, otherwise I would just take English because I highly dislike history.

Any input would be great, thank you all!

Learning is valuable for its own sake, regardless of whether it’s relevant to your major. Your college will likely have distribution requirements. There’s something icky about the idea that an AP class couldn’t possibly be worth it unless it has something to do with your future career.

You’re a freshman, so I doubt you really know what you want to major in anyway.

Why not take the tests?

That’s a stupid rule. Since you have to take both or neither, I’d recommend taking both.

I’m not a freshmen, I’m going into Junior year.

Yes it is a stupid rule.

And because I took the test last year, and I now understand how much effort I would need to put in to actually be able to have the knowledge to pass it, and I don’t think I would be able to balance the studying alongside my filmmaking outside of school.

Pretty much every college will make you take basic English and history classes though, unless you get credit for them (e.g., AP tests, dual-enrollment). That’s a benefit of taking AP classes.

Sorry, I can’t read.
But my comment about majors still applies…a lot of college students end up changing majors.
