So I was accepted ED to Wharton and I am currently taking AP Macro and self-studying Micro to exempt out of the econ 010 requirement for Wharton (granted hopefully i get 5's).
But I am sort of hesitant to exempt out of the econ 010 class because I am not sure how solid of a foundation I will be getting taking the class in high school compared to taking the class at Penn.

I know a lot of economics knowledge is needed for the finance classes and BPUB250 so I am wondering if it's worth exempting out of the econ 010 class. Thanks!

ECON010 is pretty basic:

Micro - opportunity cost, PPFs, supply and demand/microeconomic equilibrium, elasticity, perfect competition, competitive monopoly… and that’s pretty much it for micro.

Macro - GDP, unemployment, inflation, price levels, aggregate expenditure, Keynsian Cross (45 degree graph), AD-LRAS-SRAS graph, market for loanable funds, money market, fiscal policy, monetary policy, and those are the key points…

if you can get 5s on both micro and macro AP, then you should be fine for BPUB250 and everything else. if you don’t place out, it’s not a big deal either. Econ010 is a fairly easy A.

From what I hear, it would be wise to take Econ010 because of its simplicity. If anything, it will simply help your GPA (which will otherwise suffer from the difficulty of Wharton).

thanks for the responses

bump

This might be an odd recommendation, but if you don’t have the time to prepare for both exams, I would focus on AP Macro. I just took Econ 010 and got an A, but the Micro half with Professor Stein was way better than the Macro half.

If you end up taking Econ 001 with Stein, I think that would be better than simply taking Econ 010. Plus, BPUB 250 is focused on micro anyway.
