So I got 5's on AP Micro and AP Macro which means I can place out of Econ 010 and take something else like a Freshman Seminar/Language. I self-studied the material to take the APs so I'm not sure if I should place out or take the course anyway. Any thoughts? Will it negatively affect me in the future if I dont take this or does it not really matter?

I am so far behind on this scheduling thing...any help would be great!

just take it. I’m assuming you’re in Wharton so please consider you’re getting a BS in econ. Can’t have a degree in a subject you didn’t take in college.

I would skip them. You can catch up in BPUB 250 and Finance 101 (which arent terribly hard either).

i am in the same situation and I am skipping it

thanks! so i’m guessing econ 010 isn’t too challenging and i won’t suffer later

The intermediate micro and macro courses you take later on aren’t too challenging either so you can always play catchup in case there is anything you missed. I’m pretty sure though that most of your classmates will have forgotten Econ 10 by time they get to Finance 101.

If you self-studied for the AP exams then definitely take Econ 10. Otherwise you won’t be prepared for BPUB 250 and FNCE 101. You (and your peers) may forget the formulas and definitions, but you certainly need to have an understanding of market forces and, more importantly, how what you know should be applied in problem solving. Knowing the material is useful for a multiple-choice test, but you have to practice applications of the material to truly understand it. It’s nearly impossible to ensure that level of understanding by self-studying a new academic field.

Econ 010 was a joke, I learned more macro reading the WSJ. Skip it or take some higher level econ class if you’re interested, but either way you’re not missing out on anything.
