Would I be at a disadvantage if I take AP English Lit & Comp without having taken AP English 11 during my junior year?

Does AP Eng 11 help with AP Eng Lit & Comp?

Does AP Eng 11 help with AP Eng Lit & Comp?

What’s eng 11?
What’s eng 12?
Most schools differ…ex. we have Intro to lit => World lit => American lit => AP/IB Lang/Lit

AP Language & Composition (11) versus AP Literature & Composition (12)

Are they completely different classes? Or would I most likely be at a disadvantage since I am taking AP Lit & Comp without having done AP Lang & Comp?

they are “different” some schools (and the collegeboard recommends) AP Lit be taught junior year, so I think you will be fine

to be safe, you can read over the syllabus for the classes and decide whether you’ll be ready for AP Lit

Usually AP English Language is taken by juniors and AP English Literature is taken by seniors (http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/AP-Program-Summary-Report.pdf), but the order in which you take them does not really matter.

You can take Language without Literature, or Literature without Language, or both, or none, or you could even take both in one year if you really wanted to. The only real prerequisite for the courses are a solid foundation in English reading and writing.

Lit comes first where I live so I assume that the order doesn’t really matter.

At my school, Language comes first. But everyone says that Lit is much easier, so I don’t think you would have a big disadvantage, unless you’re used to CP classes, writing 5 paragraph essays, having 3 points/ideas in your thesis, and taking spelling tests… You’ll be in for a shock.
