Will Alabama give credit for both the AP Lang and AP Lit exams? Will they give elective credit if not specific credit? I’m frustrated learning that several schools only give credit for one of these two exams, yet many students take both … okay for course rigor but what about credits.

Alabama will only give you credit for one of the courses – BUT if you make a 4 or 5 on either of the AP tests you receive credit for both English 101 and English 102. If you receive a 3 on either test you get credit for 101.

If you get a 4 on either exam you receive 6 hours of credit. A 3 on either exam receives 3 hours. It does seem odd that there isn’t more credit for taking both exams, but Alabama is very generous overall with AP creidt. So many schools now are using AP to determine your placement, but not giving credit hours for the exams.
Nope. It’s one or the other. D1 took both classes in HS (and would have no matter what as she loved the content and teachers) and took both tests, but “only” got credit for one. Which was fine. Wouldn’t have changed her course selection and it wasn’t a big deal for her to take the 2nd test.

have taken AP Lang, AP Bio - scores 4+ on both

will have AP Lit and Calc AB senior year, possible AP Gov or Econ (still working on if schedule will work, but it’s only a 50/50 shot)

looking at a science major so some humanities elective credits would be nice…just some recognition of credits so that when emersed in lab classes the schedule would have a little give…

My son took AP lang as Junior, since he is taking AP lit as senior, taking the test will be up to him…if the school (hoping Alabama) does not acccept credit for both the lang and lit test. There are many schools like this, including our local community college. But, overall, Alabama would still be accepting more AP credits than other schools we have looked into.

??? no AP History at all? You really should try to fit an AP History - especially if you’re looking for some “give” in your schedule. An AP history class is a win/win…you get credit for 2 classes AND you get credit for the sequence req’t. Those are biggies.

having extra “elective” credits doesn’t really help you at Bama. Bama isn’t like some schools that have like 40 Gen Ed req’ts and then 20 “elective” Gen Ed requirements.
