AP English Language/Composition Post Test

I pretty much talked about the current time and disagreed with paine’s view of america (applied to today). I had some strong arguments and felt this essay was my strongest.
The rhetorical analysis was really easy, but i feel like everyone will say, " she appealed to emotion". So I focused a little more on other rhetorical devices. And the synthesis was the hardest. Aside from when I talked about the implications, my whole essay sucked.

And the MC was hard, for me at least.

i think i got 34/54. So according to ap pass calculator i need three 6’s. How hard is it to get a 6?

@Determined - that happens to me too, except I get songs stuck in my head and can’t concentrate on the passage itself.

“Issues” on the synth promp to me meant like the effects of the movement on the economy.

Haha, I’m so glad I actually crammed for APUSH. So much USH stuff went into both #2 and #3.

Thanks born2dance!

Overall, i think i did pretty good.

I actually had a little bit of fun with the MC section(i am kind of weird). I figured that if i had to read all those passages i better make them seem fun. I thought the MC was pretty easy. There were some that were pretty difficult, so i guessed. The weird thing is that i read the passages slowly with the questions, and i still had 5-10 minutes free.

Synthesis - I LOVED THIS ONE!!! Thank goodness it was an easy one. Since i am taking AP Environmental Science, this was the perfect topic to do an essay on. I went over-the-top!

Rhetorical - Eh. Not my worst, not my best. I was relatively forthright.

Argument - This one was kind of hard for me. I did mention history things, and The Great Gatsby. But i think i had this one under control.

I am praying for a 4!

Hey needshelp, just noticed your post right after mine, so I thought I would reply! Don’t worry about messing up one essay, as long as you did pretty well on the mult. choice and pretty well on your other essays, which it sounds like you did, you’re fine. My teacher’s an ap grader so she grades our stuff alot and seriously it’s not that hard to make a 6, but 7’s a little harder. Usually I do really well on a couple and either fall asleep or just kinda write something for the last one. Same thing for bio! Just get like 70 out of a 100 mult choice and 20 ouit of 40 free response and you get a 5

Yeah Jordan!!! Spent like an hour and 4 pages on number one! awwww yeaaaahhh

and i took a side with the synthesis essay (against the movement). I mentioned the key issues and the implications so its not off topic. Is this fine???

and with the MC i felt the passages were extremely easy to understand (not like past practice tests). BUT i felt the questions were challenging. There were a few where i cancelled out every answer so that was frustrating.

Guys what were the 4 passage topics? Library, hip hop, women’s rights and what else?

the supreme court justice one (hardest one )

Hmm, MC was pretty easy for me, especially after the mock we took. I’m so glad there were no passages written in the 16 or 1700’s. Hopefully, I got at least 48/54(I did not have major doubts on ANY of them). On the mock, I got 7-8-8 on essays, so I hope I get at least triple 7’s.

Synthesis was slightly annoying. I had 2 body paragraphs; each began with a loco’s claim and then I refuted each claim and ended by saying that potential loco’s should consider the things I talked about. Exactly 4 pages, hopefully a 7.

Rhetorical Analysis was okay. I analyzed rhetorical questions and emotional imagry(children working while we sleep) and talked about how the child labor issue is linked to the female suffrage issue. 4.5 pages, hopefully a 7.

When I got to argumentation, I had an hour left, so I thought for a while. I eventually wrote 2 body paragraphs about majority trampling on minority(same sex marriage, hope it’s not too controversial for English teachers) and about lobbyists in government(HC law). My 3rd body was addressing counterarguments. 5.5 pages, hopefully a 7 or 8.

are you serious garfield? you wrote 4+ pages for each essay and finished in time. I wrote 3 pages, and then 2 1/2 for the next 2 and barely finished. People like you make people like me look bad…lol

Well, my handwriting is bigger than normal. I also had a lot of practice with essay writing since I’m in APUSH and have self-studied Euro and World.

LOL 5.5 pages and 3 body paragraphs?!?!?! The grader is so screwed
Otherwise nice job man! I like yo style!

For the synthesis I said that the movement could lead to communism. I wrote in a completely cynical tone and I’m fairly sure I destroyed that essay.
8 or 9.
Rhetorical analysis: I put imagery, specific references to laws, and toying with the audience’s emotions. It was fairly straightforward, so I’m predicting a 7.
For the argumentative, I talked about the ground zero mosque and Great Gatsby. Said the quote was quasi-relevant. Probably a 7.

well i like the saying quality > quantity! lol

Whoa man, communism? Those guys just buy produce locally right?

honestly length doesn’t matter at all. most lengthy essays are far too repetitive anyway

MC was easy, as usual. Wouldn’t be surprised if I didn’t miss any.
Essays were also easy; wouldn’t be surprised (well, maybe a little) by all 9’s. Hope I’ll get a 5.

Please teach me how you guys are good at English. Does it just come naturally or did you practice a lot? Am I just incapable of thinking as abstractly as some of you guys?

Tell me. Thanks.
