The best thing to do is look that up on each college’s website, or collectively at collegeboard.com.

I didn’t use a book at all for English Language and got a 5. One of the more important topics to be aware of is the use of comedy and irony. Knowledge of rhetorical terms (syntax, figurative language, etc.) are overrated. You can easily get a 5 knowing them.

that could be a problem. just remember that the diction and style is probably the most important aspect of your essays. most teachers encourage content over the writing itself, but keep in mind that these readers are over-worked, and taking at most 10 mins per essay. A charmingly written essay in this case probably appeals much more than a complex, well-thought out one. Be sure you’re clear and eloquent in what you have to say, rather than digging so deep that the readers must infer or think too much in order to follow your logic or analysis.

the MC was the more difficult of the 2 sections. remember to always choose the answer most supported in the text. if you can’t find concrete evidence for an answer, think before you choose it. Rarely should you bring in personal background into the questions, and never insert personal bias, or favor an answer because it “sounds” good. the most important things when reading: 1. Purpose, 2. Tone. The pieces covered on the Language exam will ALL be argumentative in nature. If you’re able to recognize the purpose as being something beyond “to persuade,” and tone as something beyond “passionate” or “assertive,” you’ll be in great shape!

I can achieve an 8 on the rhetorical analysis. I need more practice with MC. And I don’t know about argumentative and synthesis since I have not yet done them in class.

so, seadog.overseas, how do you improve on MC? And any advice on how to get a 9 for the rhetorical analysis essay? I’ve been receiving 8’s on a few.

Our class had to memorize about 50 rhetorical terms at the beg. of the year, and I guess if you used them (properly!!) in rhetorical analysis, you might nudge your score up a bit… might also help on MC.

I hope they don’t use any 1500s/Old English passages this year!!

Old English is strictly defined as English of during Anglo-Saxon era. Middle English is that of 11th century to mid 1400s. Everything else is Modern English. Certainly, everything on the AP Test is modern English, although it may seem indecipherable at first.

is there any solid way to improve exponentially on the mc? as well as essays i get a consistent 5 on the essays ive always been a bad essay writer but i still wanna try for a 5. what would my mc have to be with all 5s on the essays?

how does the point system work for ap english?

also whats the best review book you recommend?

really scarred. id really love a 5 but i havent made higher than a 4 on any in class essays! i make 8s and 9s on all my out of class ones… and rock MC… ugh

Does anybody know what resources I can use (eg books, websites, etc.) that would help me with my essays?
I need help on how to structure and how to answer the question, I guess.
Anything would be great.
I’ve been getting 6’s on my essays and my MC isn’t so hot either. If I were to take it now, I would get a 3. I want my 5!! :D
