AP English Language Exam Thread

^People will argue that there isn’t, but to be honest, although quality trumps over quantity any day, quantity is still pretty damn good.

There are 4 to 5 passages on the MC.

I’m guessing a 75% right is going to be enough, even if you miss 25%

did anyone feel seriously crunched for time while doing the MC?
thats the main thing im concerned about

i feel like the mc on sparknotes are ridiculously easy compared to the ones ive taken in my ap class

Good luck to everyone tomorrow!

Last minute tips!?!?

I am going to memorize those terms associated with pathos, logos, and ethos on the last page. Thanks for that :D.

Just read something in the morning (preferably a complex text) before the test and make sure you know your 3 appeals.

sleep well. lol

I agree with other posters. Annotating is waaaayyy overrated. Waste of time. Come on, does it really help to write those words in the margine??

help!

in the 2008 with shadd cary newspaper, what are some techniques she uses?

Hey guys, can you use “I” in your essays?..

any released tests?

MC prompts are generally around 60 lines of text, but the text is much more complex than something on the ACT for example. For the essays teacher tells us that AP readers will definitely award you for knowledge. Also, make sure you acknowledge the counterargument and make sure your examples stay in the scope of the prompt. Also, if you can, try weaving things in from the text like for example if the writer quotes that “new celebrity trends are becoming idolized by American children, and this is what produces the next generation of success.” you could say: The author’s “next generation of success” will not require “celebrity trends” to become successful, but rather a keen desire to become the best through rigorous education advancements through their life.
PS:This is just an example, I am not a professional writer xD but my teacher does sit on the college board and reads AP English Lang and Comp papers. He was a grader last year, he also sits as the chair for English teachers on the West Coast. Make sure you are able to rely on outside knowledge and sources, or just write your heart out.

Outside knowledge, even if it is totally made up, is your best friend during the argumentative paper.
As for the DBQ, pick a side of the argument, pick 2 sources for it, and 1 against it. Simple as that. While you wont be rewarded for a 5 paragraph essay, you also wont be penalized for it. I’ve scored plenty of 9’s writing 5 paragraphs- and my teacher openly admits he grades anywhere from .5-1 whole point lower than the CB.

Just relax, really.

Okay, so I know there really isn’t much to do to prepare for this test, but as it approaches I can’t help but feel as though I’m not doing enough.

Pretty much the entire year, my class has been doing MC practice and timed writes covering each of the possible essay-types that are on the exam. Virtually all of our practice MCQ/FRQ has come from past exams. At this point, I don’t think doing any more practice questions will help me.

Is there anything else you guys think I can do to prepare, other than just relax and get a good night’s sleep?

On the argument essays (dbq and frq), whats the main difference between an “adequate” 7 and an “effective” 8?

I have always been getting 7’s, and I want to know what they are looking for to get that 8.

PS: I usually write in concession format
I. intro
II. summation of opposition
III. concede one point
IV. arguing my stance
V. conclusion

^ Just get a good nights sleep, snag some coffee and a doughnut in the morning. That’s how i’ve gotten through all mine so far.

Okay well i’m in quite a predicament.

I just took the sparknotes practice exam, which is supposed to be way easier then the real exam, and I got a 1. I had to refresh the page a couple times to make sure i wasn’t hallucinating. I don’t know what to do and time is limited. Any tips at all will be gratefully appreciated.
