AP English Language Exam Thread

Hope it’s easy.

^ Don’t we all?

If i can concentrate on the m/c, i can get a 5. If I can’t, i’ll get a 3. ggggg

Just took it today. Good luck guys! (as I speak, some of you are taking it =D Seems surreal to me)

Got here a little late! Perhaps my responses will help others in the future. Was awarded a 5 last year.

PR says it’s always better to refute than to support or qualify, because it will make your essay stand out. Is this necessarily true? Is there even a slight advantage to categorically refuting? Not true. I supported and did a good job of doing so. I also had a lot of “style” in that essay.

PR says the argumentative essay should include a historical example, a personal anecdote, and a literary example. Is this a generally true formula, or does it just depend on the prompt? YES absolutely, 100%. I used said formula (I believe), or some of it (I didn’t use a prep book but thought it’d be a good idea on my own).

thoughts on the 5-paragraph essay? Will I be docked for it? You won’t be docked for it, but it’s not what they like to see. I normally do a short intro/thesis, two supporting paragraphs, and 3-sentence conclusion (might restate thesis). It’s a time thing. Get to what you’re saying and move on. A 5 paragraph essay is not only formulaic, it’s time consuming.

So easy! Got a 5 for sure. MC was as simple as the ACT reading.

gosh my essays were bad. i don’t know why. the MC was really easy but my essays… ahhhhhhhhwae98iu43hruihrn329r7e8wih

mc was good. hopefully not easy enough so theres a harsh curve -_-

and essays were good also lol loved the analysis and argumentative.

for synthesis i by accident did 5 paragraph essay format like 3 organizational categories in thesis had a paragraph for all three then restating thesis in conclusion. will i be docked?

im hoping for 45 mc and all 6+ essays. aka a 5 lol

Thank god that’s over. I was sick and throwing up last night and still felt like **** this morning, but decided to take it anyways. My parents called the school in the morning to ask if about make up dates and they said that they had never had a student call in sick for an AP test before (yeah right) so they didn’t know if there were makeups or not. And then they were like “if your son (me) is sick and throwing up though, he can’t come in and take the test, I guess he’ll just have to take it next year.” I definitely wasn’t gonna wait til next year to take it, so I went in and they figured out that it would cost an extra $40 to take a make up version sometime next week, but since I was already there, I figured I would just take it so as not to waste the extra $40. It wasn’t too bad, I’m thinking 3+ for sure, but it was a little hard to concentrate and points when I had to try to focus on not throwing up…>_< Luckily I went home as soon as it was over though.

it was so much easier than any of the practice tests i had taken. hoping for a 5 but have the feeling i at least got a 4.

i think i got a 5

I’m pretty confident I got a 5. At least as long as the reader is not pregnant, that could cause some complications >.<

How long was this exam. I know they are all around the same length, but some were definitely a bit longer than others. Spanish was long; Chem was relatively short. My son is taking it right now and I am wondering when to expect him home.

BAD!!!..

I bombed on my three essays. I basically didn’t finish the synthesis or the rhetorical analysis. I half-assed the argument. That means two 3s and one 6. Skipped 15 MC.

I know I’ll get a 3, a slim 4 at best.

I’m just not a fast writer. I’ve been slaving over all of my AP English essays this year for 6-8 hours… Maybe I should rethink my writing skills and take an extra English class somewhere…

I left 4 MC blank, answered the rest an probably got 85-90% of those right.
First essay was good.
Second essay was pretty bad.
Third essay was decent.
Maybe 5, expecting a 4.

How much does length matter for the essays? They say quality over quantity, but I wonder. The example given for a 9 essay (the one that deals with space exploration and is written as a satire) isn’t very complex or well-written (very on-the-nose), but it’s really lengthy. That really makes me think that length is a more important factor than CB might claim, and more than just a correlation to a high score.

answered 53 mc, at least 45 right
essay 1: 7+
essay 2: 7+
essay 3: 4+

that should be a 5 right?

On the back of the test it said “you are not expected to know every question.”

Well, I’m not saying I am one of them (though I did answer all the questions), but based on the difficulty (or lack thereof) of the multiple choice I would say this year there will be several people nationwide who score perfect on the MC.

Yeah that’s a 5.

more than several i bet…you didn’t even need to take the class to get an easy 5. its the same as the sat, if not easier
