did it matter what position we took on the synthesis?

I had the barrons review book and like always, it was a lot harder than the real thing.

The test was really easy imo.

One reading passage gave me trouble but the rest were easy to understand. The strawberry one was the easiest.

As for the 3 essays, they were great.

…the whole point is to take a position and argue for it.

@sd6 i thought that’s the point of the argumentative?

***, for synthesis we were suppose to analyze factors to consider, not argue a point.

Yeah, the synthesis was a policy question, not a defend/challenge/qualify one like in #3.

By anaylzing the factors, you could still take a stand on where you drew the line between technology and it’s uses in school.

Not to be too specific about anything on the exam or anything, but when it asks you to assess the most important factors you think they should consider, it is essentially asking you to take a stance. Different viewpoints will consider certain parts of the issue more important than others.

not using a five paragraph format for rhetorical analysis seems ridiculous… they aren’t going to dock you for that as long as a) you’ve used good thoughts and articulated them or/and b) you write well. they aren’t going to look at your essay and be like “oh hey this kid used a 5 paragraph form so he/she gets a 6 MAX.”

Did anyone here by chance mention CC in their first essay?

I said that it was a tool that could be used by students to gain invaluable information about the college admissions process and that this is one example of how such information wouldn’t be as available if not for the advancement in technology.

Yay CC!

not supposed to use your own examples. just whats in the sources

Really? I was told it was similar to a DBQ style of question…I included speaking points from 4 of the 6 documents, but I did include 1-2 of my own examples too

O.O Does this mean I’ll get a really low score, like a 3?? D:

^ that’s a misconception. You are allowed to bring in outside information but it’s not neccessary.

As long as you have used a minimum of 3 sources, you have followed their directions.

It’s not a DBQ.

Ok, good, haha. Our teacher never really went over synthesis essays in class. I’m just praying I did well.

I think around 40-45/54 for the MC

Essay 1: 6-7
Essay 2: 7-8
Essay 3: 7-8

I think that’s around a 5

For the synthesis, I just kind of wrote an argument and blended some quotes from the sources into my essay and cited it and it flowed well. Since it was just part of my essay, I never explained these quotes/sources per se. Is that okay/count as “synthesis”?
I couldn’t think of any real examples for the last argumentative essay. Do you think they would care if I just used 2 hypothetical examples?

In my first essay I belittled some of the authors of the sources opinions lol.

i was racing through my last essay to get examples out and just, finish it…number three for me, was pretty much terrible.

@ ryancj11

That is often a great strategy. Though perhaps belittling their opinion isn’t the ideal way to go about disagreeing. I used the last source by challenging its relevance to the specific question asked.

so when i wrote the synthesis essay i didn’t always write (Source A), i just wrote the author’s name. do you think that’s ok?
