AP English Language Exam Thread

all ill say is thank god for comedy central-(southpark,daily show with john stewart!)
and SNL came in handy

Question, for the argumentative essay, did they want you to literally write the quote and explore it in your essay? I treated it a bit like a better developed SAT essay and just used the idea of the quote and not the literal quote itself.

I used anaphora/the repetition of “sir,” ethos, logos, AND pathos in my second essay. Did anyone else use these examples?

My third essay was based entirely on political cartoons, their eye-opening effect and how there is always some truth to them.

Omitted about 12 MC, mainly because I ran out of time on the last passage :frowning: How badly can this hurt my score? I was pretty confident about the ones that I did answer, and my essays should at least all be in the medium range.

I’m shooting for a 4.

can somebody clear this up- can i say what i used in my essays or not?

go ahead kmigasde, nothing is going to happen

To Staller

-No! Analyzing the quote is a huge mistake made on the argumentative essay.

Technically, you are not supposed to discuss any answers to FRQs until 48 hours after the test was taken.

Hey thats funny we read a modest proposal also. Does everyone read it?

@RocknPiano

For the 2nd essay you said the writer had a “polite and considerate tone”

I’m certain that his tone was one of the most scornful one’s I’d ever seen on a collegeboard essay.

@charlie2406b

Phew. Then I’m pretty sure I did well on that. I used the obvious examples that I’m sure 90% of people included from TV and the like, but I also drew on a lot of writers from all different times, hoping that the numerous literary examples might set me apart a bit from other people.

“Technically” lol. Also “technically” you are not allowed to EVER in your entire life talk about the MC. Will that ever happen? No.

@aphex: It was considerate because of the fact that he used “sir” incessantly and credited Jefferson for doing SOME good and actually told him that the DOI was perfectly written etc. I didn’t feel that it was an attack on Jefferson though, he was trying to keep the conversation respectable.

I wonder what the 3rd essay was lol The crowd seemed to have not liked that one.

i used metonymy-emphasizing how despite the progression from monarchy to roylaty america still has slaves which is ironic
pathos
ethos
logos
i used tht he didnt attack the person rather their beliefs and maintated repect (the opposite of ad hominum)
parrelel structre

Hm, I guess I just read it differently.

I suppose you may be right, but if anyone can remember the man’s name, can we look up his letter online?

“Blankener?” something like that?

I think I did really well. The MC was a breeze. And my essays, I felt, were very strong. I used examples like Dave Chappelle and Russell Peters to show how comedians often relieve racial tensions in society. And I also used Tina Fey to talk about how the item under discussion and politics often go together.

And for the second one, I mentioned the heavy irony and sarcasm he used, among other things.

Benjamin Banneker (sp?)

Edit: Whoops, late.

@tikiman

So you felt there was sarcasm there too?

Definitely. How specifically are we allowed to talk about this? Because I’m itching to, but I don’t know the rules about this

I think that bits and pieces were taken out, but if you look, almost every new paragraph starts with “sir”.
