AP English Language

For the ap english language argumentive essays, how do you guys think of good examples for support? I usually take like 7 minutes to think of examples and they are never good, and i am never able to expand on them. Help, advice?

use different rhetoric devices such as ad homenin, ad vericundium, ad populum, syntax, repetition.... just different ways that the author gets his/her point across

You can use personal experience. Make em up if you have to, but I wouldn't do this.

You can use any movie or TV show that you've seen, or anything from science or history AS LONG AS IT CONTRIBUTES TO THE THESIS!

I think it's a good idea to have some all-encompassing theme books for ammunition such as To Kill a Mockingbird or Great Gatsby

my teacher told us that books aren't the best way to go since they usually don't apply to the essays that usually argue something about contemporary american society.

for instance, i just had to write an essay, it was the 1999 argument essay about Americas "faith in the money." Basically it talks about the emphasism Americans place on money. I tried to support it with spending in stores suchas Abercrombie and Fitch, wealthy people throwing money around such as Donald Trump and businesses exploiting workers in order to obtain profits. I really was unable to expand or get really insightful with any of these, do you guys have any advice for that, or any better examples for such an essay?

Appeal to pathos, ethos, logos are the easiest for me.

The easiest for me is the author's tone and diction.

thats the rhetorical anaylsis, im talking about the "extent to which" "defend, argue, qualify" ones

The key to getting examples...prepare a list! Such as every book you've read since 9th grade, or other contemporary essays or magazines you've read. In addition, if you are in APUSH, that is a gold mine of examples. even concerns to moneyh can involve APUSH because it involves information up to year 2000.
