I am in the class and my teacher STINKS. She makes the class SO much harder than the test, which isn't necessarily good. I looked through the AP Language prep book by Barron's and it looked MUCH easier than the stuff she has been throwing at us. Are there any good ways to specifically study for this test? Which prep book is best for AP Language?

i'm also taking that class right now. i don't know much about test prep books. my mother got me princeton review and, even though it's a little short, it seems pretty helpful. study up on the different styles of essay writing you'll be required to do; synthesis, persuasive, and rhetorical analysis. Synthesis is similar to the history DBQ, persuasive is self explanatory, and the rhetorical analysis essay requires you to read a passage and explain the rhetorical devices etc. that the author uses. You should be familiar with all manner of literary and rhetorical devices, both for that essay and for the multiple choice, which comprises 55% of the your grade for the whole exam. Pay attention to the deeper themes and symbolism in the books you read in class (assuming you read any!) because you'll need to pull examples from literature, history, or personal life for essays. A test prep book will help but, like i said i've only seen the princeton review one.

hope i could help

We're using CliffsAP..but I think we're only using the practice tests.

I'm really not learning much in class right now...we barely do any AP practice. We do some MC questions but barely ANY practice for essays so I'm going to read up on those a bit. But really, just getting familiar with the format/type of questions that might show up and some practice, you should be fine!!

I am sorry to hear about your AP class because I practice with my students as much as I can. We discuss in Socratic Seminars, analyze each others essays, have what I call a writing "boot camp", etc... my students have completed persuasive speeches and research papers, descriptive narratives, cause and effect, process analysis, and several other rhetorical modes. I hate it when teachers don't do their job...

I just made a post about it here:

I also see no problem with your teacher being hard on you in class; it'll make taking the test a snap. My teacher was also very rigorous, and I ended up sleeping through half the exam and still made a 5.

ap lang is one of those classes tht has no grades, make a mistake, too bad
