What is the difference between AP language and AP literature, because they both seem so similar. Also, which one of them is most similar to the SAT literature?
Do you have any advice or tips for the AP English subjects?
Short answer, because it’s more complicated than this - AP Lang focuses more on essay writing and non-fiction. AP Lit focuses more on literary analysis of poetry and prose.
Neither. SAT Literature is more like SAT CR on steroids.
Other than practice writing and read lots, no.
@skieurope But isn’t the AP Eng Lang mostly multiple choice? How does it focus on essay writing when it usually includes passages?
Both exams have MC and FRQ’s.
Thanks, what test prep books do you recommend for the AP English subjects?
AP Lang - Cliffs
AP Lit - Barron’s
Although TBH, I don’t think that either test is worth buying a book for or spending much time going through the books. If you can get them at a library, go for it. Otherwise, just look at old practice exams from the CB website.
I’m just not sure how to study for it because my school does not offer any AP courses nor is my English teacher even qualified enough to teach me English. I’m just taking the AP test in another school net year.
Not a unique situation. My HS offered neither AP Lang nor AP Lit, and I took both exams but I read a lot, and the English teachers were strong at teaching writing. Without somebody to give you feedback on your writing skills, I really don’t know what to tell you.
