***AP European History Thread 2015-2016***

How have your teachers taught the short answers? My teacher has taught us to keep it 20 word sentences, whereas other teachers online have said to do multiple sentences. Thanks.

@mathdude12345 35/55 is enough to get a 3, according to my teacher anyway. My teacher is insane; he’s giving us a test tomorrow on stuff he didn’t even go over in class. Still don’t know how to do an SAQ or LEQ and I barely know how to do a DBQ, so… yeah praying for a 3 at this point.

DBQs are pretty formulaic to write. You start off with your contextualization by providing the general state of affairs of the designated time interval. You move to your thesis which my teacher says should be 2-4 pronged. To get the historical complexity point you just describe the causes of the prongs. So your thesis looks something like this:

The buildup to WWII from 1933-1938 was due to [reason 1] which was caused by [cause of reason 1], [reason 2] which was a reaction to [cause of reason 2], and [reason 3] which stemmed from [cause of reason 3].

I like to be super obvious, so in the margins, I mark out the portion of my thesis with arrows and write the word thesis.

Since you get to use documents, let the documents guide you in organizing your paper. I try to find similarities between documents so that I can group them together. When you go through the documents, you have to correctly use 6 of the 7 documents, which means you just summarize them and explain what they mean without directly quoting. I usually use all 7 in case I messed one up. For extended analysis, you’re supposed to provide historical context, purpose, audience, or point of view for 4 of the documents. Unless you’re super familiar with the material or have a lot of time, I suggest you do the last three which are easier to get.

For outside information, I start thinking about it once I glanced through all of the documents. And just to be sure, I write outside info in the margins next to where I have outside info.

And for synthesis, I try to find another period in European culture to which the question could be applied. And if I’m really desperate, I use APUSH stuff.

@mathdude12345 The art of 1450-1550 display individualism inspired by Renaissance humanism which resulted from an increase of material wealth (due to Italian control of trade routes), decrease of papal prestige due to blunders like the Avignon papacy and Great Schism, and the rediscovery of Ancient Greek and Roman civilization.

Thanks for your help @catullus101, that really helped clear things up! I wish I had the luxury of taking APUSH, but I won’t be taking it until next year, sadly.

My teacher hasn’t mentioned anything about short answers, though we did them for the second part of our final today. The trick with those is honestly just to answer the question.

ughh i hope the dbq is not on recent history, as in within the last half century history, b/c i did not have a lot of time to study that

How did everyone think it went?

@seanman1224 We can’t discuss any MC, and maybe Essays if they are released by college board. However, I can say that I did pretty good on the MC and SAQ’s. The second half got me, I got a VERY TOUGH DBQ, which is gonna lower my score and took up time that could’ve been used for my LEQ. Honestly I’m pretty sure I was on track for a 4 or 5 until I hit the DBQ. Wish I had a better topic, like those who said it was easy…

@ZealousScholar I know! But, I think we all had the same DBQ, if I’m not mistaken. I don’t think the multiple choice or short answer were terrible, but I definitely know I could’ve done better all around.

Also, anyone know if the curves are different for different forms of the test? Different forms of tests can be easier or harder, so I’m just wondering, even if someone got a hard test, if or if not it would be curved higher.

The multiple choice was way easier than what i was expecting so that was a relief. I didn’t do so well on the SAs but my essays were decent. I’m hoping for a 4!
I think different forms had different DBQs but I think the forms overall will be graded the same

There were 2 different DBQ’s and sets of LEQ’s. One DBQ was on a certain French leader the other was on a certain German leader. There were 2 sets of LEQ’s one was on women and I don’t know what the other one was.

DBQ was cake. The first SA got me and the LEQ was sort of difficult. The MC was alright I guess. Prob a 3 or 4 (maybe a 5 if my multiple choice score is really good lol).

I think the DBQ/LEQ set I got was much much harder than the other one. I felt like I was on track for a 5 before the DBQ and LEQ, after that I’d be lucky to get a 3.

I thought the exam was much easier than expected. Pleasantly surprised! From the looks of it, I guess I got the easier DBQ and LEQ set though. Hopefully the curve is generous.

When will the FRQ be released? Sunday?

IMO the German set was much much harder

If you had the DQB on said German leader will it be graded more leniently? I know for me I had trouble grouping the documents and therefore struggled to make a good thesis which hurt my LEQ:(. From what my friends were saying the French ruler DBQ was very easy. Will our DBQ’s or curve be better than theirs?

Am I the only one who thought MC was pretty hard… ._.

My two cents… I thought the MC was actually kind of hard. I did okay on the SEQ… My DBQ really made me think (pretty easy to guess which one I had now lol) as I didn’t have anything written down after 15 minutes, but then there was kind of a “lightbulb” moment so I think I kind of did good on that!! The LEQ topics that I had to choose from were really easy, so I think I did well overall. Just praying for a 3…

My reflections of the test. MC was not the worst but Instarted getting a headache and losing my train of thought halfway through the MC. My set of short answers were relatively easy unless i somehow screwed something up but I don’t think I did. DBQ, got the one with France, pretty easy compared to the other one. The LEQ was relatively easy too tbh and I had 40 minutes left but I steated daydreaming and losing my train of thought and I think I could have used a lot more good examples.
