If you have been admitted and will attend, is there any point in taking the AP exams of your courses that year? Caltech doesn't accept any credit, and each exam is ~90 dollars...

Would caltech allow you to not take the ap exams then???

There is no need to take the AP exams as far as Caltech is concerned. They do not give any AP credit, as most everyone at Caltech has had many AP classes, and they presume you know the material. It would be a good idea to take them if there is any likelihood of your ending up at another school or would consider transferring to another school at some point. But if you are sure Caltech is the right niche for you, don’t bother. They will offer placement exams your first week or so of frosh year where you may opt to place into a more advanced class than otherwise, but you’d get no credit for doing so. AP exams have no bearing on that at all.

so the school i attend will drop your gpa from 5.0 ap weighted to 4.0 if you dont take them, would that cause rescinding offers?? thats the worry here…

I would suggest taking the exams. You do not know what the future will bring and having those scores may be immensely helpful/necessary.

$90 isn’t nice, but…

and I think the gpa drop would be easily explained, but it could cause a yellow flag.

This is hilariously stupid, and I doubt Caltech would care. The only way it might be an issue is if you’re applying for scholarships where you’d need to include your HS transcript.
