AP French Language: how impossible?

So I always hear that the language exams are absolutely sadistic. Anyone know how hard they actually are?

I've got a pretty good handle on French - started 9th grade, now a junior taking college French (skipped a bunch), but do you have to be like FLUENT to get, say, a 4? I hear it's really hard to get even a 3.

I'm in the same situation as you, I am a junior and am taking college french and i'm curious to know the answer as well because I am taking AP French and AP French literature next year. So basically, I'm bumping the thread.

so when did you guys do French III and IV?

I took French III sophmore year. In my school French IV is college french and its a course where we get college credit from St. Johns University, but we don't take the AP test. AP French is next year and since I will be the only one in that class, I will be doing AP French literature as well.

Im curious to how hard it is seeing as ill be in AP French next year too.

I skipped French II and French IV. I would be doing AP French Lit & Lang at my school this year, except it didn't fit into my schedule. So instead, I'm taking the highest level French at the U of M.

I had that option as well but I wanted to make sure I did well in my other classes.

I go to an entirely French-language school, and I looked at some sample questions for the AP, and I must say, even I thought they were kind of tricky. Study hard and read, read, read, read!

lol, that's not the most encouraging :(. how is it going to an all french language school?

Does anyone know any good prep books for AP French Lang or AP French Literature?

Let's just say that you get used to it. I remember when I just started, it came as such a shock to have all of my classes in French, but then I got forced to do better, and now I speak French pretty well. I didn't mean to sound so harsh lol... But seriously, reading in French helps a lot. Good luck!

I tried a few AP French free-response questions (got them off the College Board website) and only missed, like, 3 out of, say, 30 that I did... and that was after one year of studying French. (Skipped/self-taught I during the summer before 11th grade, took II during the fall, was in III--end of the semester--when I tried the questions).

I got a 5 on Spanish Language, and I've heard that the French AP is easier and has a kinder curve. :)

You might find this link helpful in determining how "impossible" the French Language AP is.

<a href="http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/french_lang/dist.html?frenchlang%5B/url%5D">http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/french_lang/dist.html?frenchlang</a></p>

now what percent are fluent already?

At my school, the top French students, at least, tend to do well on the AP French. We go through French IV, and it's not even an AP geared course, we're really being prepared for IB Standard Level French. However, we do have a French competition team that generally takes first in the state, and the people on that team go through a lot of extra training, and I would imagine that they make up a good portion of our 5s.
