AP Grades

I got a 5 on euro and a 3 on world... im a sophomore and it was my first ap tests so I dont think there so bad but my question is do colleges consider ap scores in their admissions process and if I did submit the world score would it be looked at negatively even though it still is passing and was my first ap.... schools like penn, harvard, stanford, duke, and georgetown

I'm a freshman, and in the same situation; I got a 3 on an AP Exam, but I know if I took another AP Exam I prob would of got a 5. Cause for the AP Exam I took I got a five on all of them, but the exam this year was weird, and asked random questions that were not covered in barrons; and I want to apply to those top notch colleges later on...

5 on AP US Gov!

I got 5/5/5/4 as a sophomore. Should I even be thinking that chem (4) will hurt me?

No! Your results are excellent. Go celebrate (safely, of course :)).

Colleges generally don't care about your AP scores unless they are very numbers focused (like Caltech, Carnegie Mellon CIT, etc...). Most colleges solely used AP scores for college credit. In all cases, AP scores may help make or break a decision if you are on the the fence for some college.

So if i get one four, it's bad if i apply to very selective places?

Most likely, selective colleges (Harvard, Princeton, Yale, MIT, etc...) will not care a bit, they do not expect you to get straight 5s. The only time when AP grades may hurt is if you get an A in lets say Biology in your school and get a 2 or a 1 on the exam - colleges might see that as grade inflation. But 4s and even 3s are very rarely frowned upon because colleges know that one 3 hour test does not accurately represent your competency in a certain subject as you may have been sick, had recent family problems, etc...

Basically, don't worry about your 4, very selective colleges will not care.

A VERY rare exception to this is Caltech: They want to see a 5 on the Calculus BC test

What kind of nutty world have we created? A 4 isn't bad ... it's good.

Sure, you may find that some of your "competitor" applicants have amassed a string of 5's before they're old enough to get their learners' permits, but that still doesn't mean that a student with just one 4 on a single exam should feel out of the running.

Admission officials look at many factors when making their decisions and will evaluate you in the context of what your background is, what has been available to you, and what your other strengths are.

What if he got a 3?

He'll still be fine in my opinion although it will be helpful to see his entire AP score history.

Lol no I got a 3 this year as a freshman lol. Just wondering.

colleges don't consider ap tests in admissions decisions. period.

That's encouraging, but are you sure? I mean, I was incredibly devastated (I spent 4 hours moping, very pathetic,i know :( ) when i got my 4 in APUSH. I felt so cheated. I got an 800 on Sat II UsHistory. How is this possible??

I think HYPSMC may care about scores lower than a 4.

Blueducky, your SAT-II score suggests you have the factual background to get a 5 but you may not have good writing skills, which count for a large part of the APUSH exam.

Yea, see that's the type of (wrong) response i feared to receive

I received a 5 for English Lang; and a 5 for Euro History; i got a 790 on WRiting for SAT's. My english teacher photocopied my essay for the whole class to read. My own APUSH teacher gave me a 9 for this thematic essay i wrote.

i don't think that's quite it. sorry for my rudeness/bitterness, i'm still in shock

Some things to consider
1. Your school/prospective major. A science based school won't care if you got a 4 on AP Gov. But they do expect 5's (or almost all 5's) on math and science APs.
2. Your SAT II score. If you have a 700+ in an SAT II, that will support your AP score, 4 or 5.
3. All other parts of your app. Colleges will never reject or accept an applicant solely on a 4 vs. a 5 on an AP test.

Actually, yes you should be worried about a 4 on AP Chem.

Sorry folks but I've looked at a decent amount of top colleges and a lot (if not most) ONLY accept 5s for chemistry credit.

So depending on where you want to go you might not get credit. Chem is one of very few classes that have such high expectations.

Thanks you guys. I'm feeling a lot better now, surprisingly. I'm bound to anyways, right?

It just didn't seem right. I got a 4 in something i studied my butt off for. For English Lang, i got a 5 without studying. THAT seems wrong, but i guess luck worked both for and against me this year.

I got a 3 on the APAH test. :( I was very unhappy... my safety won't even give me credit for it (They don't give credit for APAH.. period).

I was a freshman... and hey my county will give me my $84 back, so I guess it's all good.
