I am a freshman right now and I am trying to decide what AP classes I am taking next year. If I want to major in biology or some other form of science, is it worth it to take AP European History? Or, should I just take AP Human Geography instead for an easy AP class? (Keep in mind, I’m already signed up for AP research, AP biology, and AP statistics)
4 APs is a very strong sophomore schedule, so it’d be fine if you chose APHG over AP Euro.
Choose classes you feel will benefit you in terms of learning, your interests, your future goals. Don’t choose them to please a college. Most strong STEM students I know continue to take humanities but they allocate the most time and energy to STEM classes and activities. They often don’t even take APUSH (Oh such a transgression!).
No specific history AP will help you as a science major. Of course, as you probably know, you still have to take history courses, so you might as well make the best of it! US Government and Politics, Economics, and US History would probably be the most useful simply because they are the most needed for everyday life.
You’d be fine taking AP Human Geography if you’re interested in it - but don’t feel you “have to” in order to have one more AP.AP Bio in particular is very demanding and time-consuming. AP Human Geog is actually quite interesting and relates to what’s going on in the world right now (just like APES and Current Events, one of the few classes that will do so) but no one expects a sophomore to take 4 APs so not taking a 4th AP would NOT impact your admissions down the line. Take the class because you’re interested in it, not “to impress colleges”.
