A few questions for some people about AP US HISTORY AND SAT II US HISTORY

1) Which is harder?
2) How do I efficiently prepare? I'm aiming for at least 790
3) I'm about to take AP US in May, should I use SAT History as a practice?

Um, I am in APUSH now and I have a solid A (like 93) in the class. I looked at the Sat II in US History and felt like a retard. There is no way that I would get above a 700 on it heeehaw. I would suggest to take it in May. And a 790 is no easy feat... I will tell you that.

If you have an excellent APUSH teacher (look at how the students have fared in the past three years........how many 4s and 5s, etc.), you can and should do well on the subject test as well. My evidence is anecdotal: a boy was forced to take the history subject test because Columbia wanted him desperately and it was late Fall his senior year. He told me at a forum that in part because he did well on APUSH, that he was well-prepared for the subject test later in the year. Keep in mind the different formats.

D is planning to take both next May!

I took the APUSH test in May after much studying and got a 5, and then in June i took the SAT Sub without studying and got a 750. I thought that the AP Test was harder overall, but they're really not too comparable. The SAT Sub doesn't have a DBQ or essays, and the AP Test is much longer. That being said, getting a 790 is probably harder than getting a 5.

If you want a 790 you're going to need to study a lot, preferably with some sort of SAT Sub study book. I'd wait until after the AP test if you want a 790, unless you want to study for both tests at the same time. You might be able to pull them off at the same time if you really study hard, though.
