Hi CCers. I just got my AP scores in mail and found that I got a 5 on the AP Lang test. You know I thought I did pretty well in the Multiple Choice section. Just wondering now that AP Lang MC section resembles the SAT CR so much, which one is harder and what are there differences. Does the SAT CR focus more on logic and reasoning while the AP Lan focus more on literary devices or what?

As someone who’s taken both, I think the SAT CR was easier, even though I got a 5 on the AP and a 700 on the SAT. It has more to do with personal preference. The AP, in my experience, dealt more with literary devices. The deepest the SAT goes in that respect is recognizing similes/metaphors. I don’t remember off the top of my head what specific passages are in each test, but you should be able to find that info in your AP/SAT study book if you bought them. If you got a 5 on the AP, i’d expect a 700+ for you on the SAT CR. Good luck!

AP Language is more abstract in their questions (the answers can’t always be found in the text–more inference), tests harder literary devices (but neither tests very heavily on those anyway), and have more interesting passages (in my opinion). Everyone I know says the SAT CR is easier, but I usually get more % right in AP Language MC than I do in CR MC. Like Panther said, it has to do with personal preference.

The AP MC feels like a slightly harder version of SAT CR. I don’t like the questions about footnotes for some reason, though.

From the practice exams, the AP Lang questions are generally tougher than the SAT CR because Lang draws from a wider period and has more questions on literary devices. That being said, it’s only 3/4 more questions on literary devices, and when I took the actual exam, I felt the Lang questions were easier than the SAT ones. You have to remember Lang is only a 1 hr multiple choice but the SAT CR is broken up so the long time period wears you out. I got a 5/800.
