AP lang

can someone tell me if you are aiming for HYP, do you have to take AP lang or Literature? IN my sons school AP lang is required for AP Lit. we are worried that the college will think negatively, He will have 10-11 AP by the end of senior year. He is just not so interested in this subject but likes Latin and will take latin AP virgil in May. Any opinions? thanks

You don't have to take AP-lang or lit. 10-11 APs is already overkill.

thank you again for your reply!
Because we are international there is limited source here. there always a trend here. Ever year someone who gets into both HY did about 11 APs and did each AP subjects in science,hx, english, math. this is a trend. Many are saying if you want to get into HYP you have to take Lang AP or Lit AP. I hoped this was not true. My son is not too interested in AP Lang or Liit. But it is funny that he is interested in Latin virgil.
He takes AP Hx, APscience, AP math plus APeconomics and APchinese and AP latin .
Are you sure that schools like HYP would not care if he did not take AP english?
Most of his classmates aiming for HYP are.
thank you so much

As an international, he needs to make sure that the US colleges are convinced he can function in English, and his various APs, especially in history, make a good case that he does.
My S did not take AP-English lit; AP-language is only given half credit at Harvard.

I would not worry about the lack of AP in English.

Marite thank you

My son is an asian-american. He will take both Euro and US hx by the time he graduate.
He his excellent in math and science but does not really enjoy it. He loves learning different languages. Especially he is enjoying learning Latin virgil independently(not available in school) and will take AP exam in May. He is really enjoying studing this particular subject and might want to study this in college. He has interest in classics. I thought that if he wants to study this in college the college would want to see some AP in english too. Like science majors does most APs in science, Humanity majors would be more likely take many english courses. This is my concern.
thank you

He has other ways of demonstrating his writing skills than taking an AP in English. He could take a regular English class, for example, and write a long paper. That would be more impressive than the AP-exam. Be aware that some of the most rigorous schools, both public and private, have decided to eliminate APs because they find the curriculum too constricting. This is particularly true of the English and social studies curricula. So I really do not think your son will be at a disadvantage.

thank you and thank you. I appreciate your opinion!!

My son didn't even take honors English as a senior because of a scheduling conflict. He got in. (When he was in honors English he got Bs by the way.)
