Will the AP Lit and Lang exams do me any good as a freshman engineering student for Fall 2006?

A 4/5 on AP Lang is the equivalent of ENLG 150 and a 4/5 on AP Lit is the equivalent of ENGL 200. Do I need these credits/exemptions? I though all freshman were required to do SAGES and that it took care of the English requirement.

Can somebody please clarify for me what the English requirement is for engineers and whether taking the AP English Exams ($150 total) will help me out at all at Case?

Thanks.

Case gives excellent credit for AP...I have 37 AP credits that counted...one was AP Lit. That made me a sophomore during the first semester of my freshman year.

But does that benefit someone in the class of 2010? How does having that many AP credits benefit me other than having sophomore status (for housing, etc.)?

Did you have to take SAGES? Because I know I will have to.

I know people in my class (2008) got credit for the AP english exams, but I'm not sure how that affects SAGES students. If I had to make a guess I would say that you will not get out of your SAGES classes for them, but you will get credits (that may not apply for anything).

Having AP credits will only help you if you (like psatmadness) have enough credits to rank you a full year ahead. Many students come in with roughly a semester of credits... Housing is only related to the number of semesters you have spent in campus housing, so academic credits don't matter there. Scheduling for classes is the only thing that the number of credits plays into, and really, I've never had a problem getting into a class that I wanted to take (even though I am mostly taking classes with students that have more credits than me and register earlier)...phys ed classes are about the only exception to that...you may have a rough time getting into the one you want as a freshman

ap english anything counts for nothing (interms of sages) you may get english credit, but you will take sages. period. thats probably one of the biggest drawbacks to the program, unfortunately.

There really arent many more benefits to taking AP tests except to earn credit for low level courses and, if you have enough, being a sophomore. Although having credit coming in as a freshman is hugely beneficial. I was 3 hours shy of sophomre standing when I came in and will be almost a junior at the end of my freshman year. It's really nice because it allows you some freedom in your schedule, it allows more flexibility, it allows a double major easier, etc.

xxindiana-as an engineer, you take sages. everony does. Differences come in General Education Requirements (GER). They're different for every school.

A point of clarification. When you register for classes is dependent on when you entered the university. So having lots of AP credits doesn't mean that you get to register earlier than other people your year. But like Ctheflute said usually getting into classes isn't a problem you just might not get your first choice on lab times.
I believe English 200 credit can count for a humanities credit for engineering Sages, I don't know about English 150. Outside of SAGES, engineers only need 4 humanities/social science classes for distribution, plus Engl 398N.

it makes a huge difference in terms of your program. for example i can now do a bs/ms degree and still use my scholarship (i can do it in four years). i can also double major in this period of time. big help!
