Usually I have a few universal books prepared (1984 and Frankenstein are my main two usually) but I crammed a lot of Vergil so I didn’t prepare those. Plus I didn’t even know you could go off of the list until I got there this morning and someone told me, so I wouldn’t have thought to prepare those books. Whatever, I still have hope for a 5 (just for pride sake because I’m like one of the only kids in my grade who didn’t get a 5 on Lang =) but realistically I’m assuming 3 or 4.

Does anyone happen to know which passages and poems appeared on the MC portion?

I remember the ones on the FR portion, but can’t remember all of the ones on the MC portion.

PM me if you do happen to know!

FRQ 2: I did this one first, just because I hated it. It seemed so dry. But I wrote 4 pages about that damn Rosamond.

FRQ 1: I enjoyed this one. I did it second, and finished within 35-ish minutes. I could only tell by the mundane proctor’s monotone voice, but I wrote 4 pages.

FRQ 3: Hated it. I started off with Things Fall Apart, but couldn’t remember if I was spelling Okankwo correctly, so I switched to Grapes Of Wrath. My essay was 1 and 1/2 pages, so it obviously sucked.

Looking at a 4? The multiple choice was easy, since I practiced 3 of the practice tests. Wanted a 5, but I swear if I had more and not numerous quizzes/tests surrounding the AP exam, I could have gotten in.

Oh, and I hated the Ponies poem. Honestly, how you could write so much about seeing two ponies graze a field…

^^ It’s Okonkwo. Maybe you had it right the first time, on the test?

can someone PM me the sketchy question too?

That pony-blessing poem made me so incredibly happy!! And i don’t even have any sort of infatuation with horses or anything, it was just lovely : )
Anyone use Cold Mountain for number 3?

What is the appropriate essay length for lit and comp? I wrote 1 and 1/2 pages for all three essays. I wont say that my handwriting is small, but it is more condensed than others in my class. Both FRQ 1 and 2 were 5 paragraph essays, FRQ 3 was 4 because I was just running out of mental power and, quite simply, things to say.

With my large handwriting, mine went to 2+ pages (3+ on the last one). Anyways, if you feel you said what you had to say, that’s fine. I think the way AP English tends to work is “does this essay reflect an analytical thought process?” Once that gets a yes, you’re basically set up for a 6, the higher grades being based on the quality of analysis and your style. Length is not the arbiter of good scores, as a shorter essay can have better analysis than a longer essay.

I used Montana 1948
but it was rough…

Thanks Jalmoreno, I just was getting a tad bit concerned reading some posts of “four pages” and that easily dwarfs my essay lengths. A little bit nervous because English is far from my strong point, but I was feeling good about this test today.

For the two essays I was content with I wrote 2 pages and my handwriting is medium-small.

On first reading I thought the Rosamond-Lydgate prose passage was dry and obnoxious but upon further analysis I warmed up to it. Interesting how the marriage dynamic hasn’t changed much since the 19th century.

Someone want to send me the sketchy question? =]

Yay for reading Middlemarch for summer reading! : D Got pretty excited when I saw that haha

I don’t remember it being a sketchy question, more like a sketchy answer. A REALLY sketchy answer, it took some effort not to bust out laughing when I saw that
I thought the MC was really easy, there were only a few questions I wasn’t sure about.

Am I the only one who found it more difficult to do FRQ 1 than FRQ 2? I just didn’t feel like there was a whole lot to use in it, as opposed to FRQ 2. I ended up using Hamlet for 3, as did everyone else I talked to.

Sketchy questions was really NOT that sketchy. Like, I know what you guys are talking about, but chill out.

Anyway:

MC: really frigging easy. I LOVED that grief poem.
FRQ1: that poem was dumb. Like, legit…
FRQ2: this was by far my best essay. It could actually stand on its own as an essay even not considering the time pressure. Strangely enough, this seems to be the one everyone else had the most trouble with, but it was by far my favorite.
FRQ3: abject failure. I thought everyone would write about TKAM, and I wanted to write about something different. I was like… ok… book about a trial… I ended up doing Twelve Angry Men, which was a teleplay adapted to a play adapted to a movie. Awkward. I did read the play (in like 6th grade) but not gonna lie, the movie definitely helped me remember stuff. Anyway, it was the most simplistic and cursory analysis ever, SO literal. Meh.

Still predicting a 5 on the strength of the MC and FRQ2. According to APPass calculator I’m sort of borderline, but that’s underestimating my essays.

I wish someone would just post the sketchy question so people don’t keep asking for it. Collegeboard will not come knocking at your door with CIA agents. I promise. But if no one wants to post the question, can someone at least PM it to me?

Here’s what it was like for me:

MC: Incredibly easy. Got around 50 correct for sure; a couple other questions were a little more uncertain but I felt extremely good.
FRQ 1: I struggled a little with this one (especially the last stanza), but I think I did okay.
FRQ 2: LOVED IT. Definitely expecting a 9, if not an 8, for this essay.
FRQ 3: Since I hadn’t read anything on the list besides “To Kill A Mockingbird”, that was the book I ended up using. This essay was okay, but I feel like I could have used a little more detail (I don’t remember too many details since I read this book a long time ago).

I agree with gold3n. But now that everyone is asking it’s got me curious. Can someome pm me the sketchy question too ? Please and thank you.

Did anyone get a ton of D’s? I got like 3 or 4 in a row I think.

Our school had this huge controversy with that test. While they were taking the AP Test, there was a really big disturbance with a girl who was going crazy and breaking fire extinguishers. There was smoke everywhere so the fire alarm was pulled, and the AP Lit kids had to get out and go through this isolation process. Their test was void and they have to take Form B, I believe now. They were all really ****ed off because they only had about 20 minutes of the test left. Everyone felt so bad.
