Is AP Music Theory a hard class? I heard it was really easy, but it is AP so...
I have been playing violin since I was 5. I am pretty good at playing it, but not amazing or anything. I know more musical terms and scales than the average person. I want to take it in order to have 3 AP's my sophomore year. Plus, my school requires a fine arts credit in order to graduate. Thanks!

Your school gives class credit for AP tests?

Music theory isn’t hard, but you have to have perfect pitch, if not really good relative pitch. You also have to identify notes and rhythms and write them down.

I’m also taking the music theory ap test, and I’m trying to learn melodic progression and composition. It’s pretty hard to understand, and I’ve been playing piano for 11 years and french horn for 6.

Moral of story: if you’re good at identifying intervals, you’re fine.

I understand that the College Board sells past exam papers for AP Music Theory.
Where can I buy them?

I have perfect pitch so that part is easy for me. However, the composition stuff is confusing, and there are probably terms that you don’t know which you need to memorize. I have no idea how to do melodic progression and composition, and I’ve played the piano for 12 years. However, aside from that I have heard it’s an easy class, although some teachers assign lots of busy work.

Sorry for the late reply, but thank you for all of the information, everyone! :]

Is it possible to get good pitch in 1 year if you play an instrument (not professionally or anything, just for fun)?

Is it even possible to learn pitch? I’ve been playing piano for 8 years and I can’t tell if something’s a diminished third or whatever without sheet music.

does anyone have the 2008 released exam audio files?
