How influential is it if you are an AP National Scholar? My teachers have never even mentioned this award to me, yet a lot of people here seem to be aiming for it.

I need to know because if it is important I've got to start cramming self-study AP's to reach 8!!!

I like how you're willing to start spending hours studying subjects on your own for a title you just heard of and know barely anything about.

The fact that you just heard it on this forum, and not from any teachers, should say something to you about its significance. In my opinion this is more of a thing that CC kids brag about and compete over, not something that anyone else will give a damn about.

It's not that important. I'd rather spend extra time making sure that I have a solid understanding in the AP subjects taught at school rather than cramming for self-study APs.

Nothing more than icing on the cake for a bunch of stressed out smart kids who are desperate to find a way to distinguish themselves from hundreds of thousands of other stressed-out smart kids. Go cure cancer instead. That'll impress somebody.

actually, i know for a fact that CU boulder weighs APs very high because well...
Do you know why they try to pick the best students to get into their schools? Its so they can get a larger number of students that will be dedicated and make it all the way through their program. They make more money if you dont flunk out. Having the ability to take, and make it through, multiple APs shows that you have the ability to devote yourself to work and actually survive in college.

btw, i read some file from cboard some time back that in 2006, only around 320 students in the country got ap national scholar before 12th grade. i just made 8 this year and 3 (two physics C's and stat) of them are self-studied. i dont like the idea of self study in humanities but in sciences i think its a lot more convenient.

In my opinion, the National Scholar award isn't worth self-studying a bunch of AP's. It's just a nice bonus for doing well on the AP exams you would have still taken if the award didn't exist. Maybe for some it's a reason to take 8 AP's instead of 7 if they are undecided about it.
