I moved to my school fro a different district that had different curricular requirements that this new school did not have. In order to take AP Physics 1 a student needs to have successfully completed Algebra 2 Honors and Honors Chem but I have only finished Honors Geometry and Honors Chem since I moved from a different district. I have talked to my math and chem teachers, the ap physics teacher, and the principal and they all will allow me to take the class, however the physics teacher said it will be a great challenge. If anyone could tell me what math concepts I specifically need for AP physics and/or any resources that would help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I was wondering if i got an algebra 2 textbook if that would help and just went over the infomration in that. Thank you
I took the ap exam for it, and tbh you dont need to know any difficult math! Know how to add, subtract, take averages, divide, multiply, and any thing else and youll be fine. you also get a graphing calculator
Agreed, and you’re taking Algebra II next year anyway, right? You should be fine.
Hi,
I just completed AP Physics 1 this year, and I made a list of all the topics that are needed for the exam. I personally would not learn all these topics now (as to not stress or confuse yourself before the class begins!), but come May, these topics will be especially relevant, in my opinion, to getting a high mark.
Vector (addition/subtraction; 1-D and 2-D)
Axis-Angle Representation (sine, cosine, and tangent relationships)
Breaking Vectors into Horizontal and Vertical Components
Inner and Outer Products of Multiple Vectors
Center of Mass
Trigonometric Functions (in terms of Geometry)
Independent and Dependent Variables
If you have any further questions, feel free to message me.
In our district 9th graders in common core math compaction integrated math 2/3 are placed in AP Physics 1. Previously students who completed Geometry and were concurrently enrolled in Algebra 2 were placed in AP Physics 1… I am concerned that my daughter will not be prepared fpr the class She has completed Math 1, integrated math, which is Algebra 1 with a bit f Algebra 2 and minimal geometry 1.
