My school is starting course selections for next year, and i am wondering if taking physics as an AP would be too much considering my schedule. Also, at my school, we are allowed to take higher level physics ap’s, even if we took regular physics 1 (there is no honors), so not taking it would not hurt my senior courses in anyway.
My courses for next year are:
2 languages (french and russian, but they are easy for my, not outside work at all)
English 11 honors (i was heavily recommended for AP though)
US history (regular, recommended to choose between AP of Honors)
AP Calc BC (recommended for)
AP chem
Orchestra
Physics 1 or AP?
Any suggestions?
Ap physics 1 shouldn’t be that difficult. If you are diligent and not procrastinate you can easily get at least a B
^^ I am in AP Physics 1 now. If you are in Calculus BC you should do fine; the subjects relate a lot.
Have you already taken some AP courses? If you know the rigor of some AP’s at your school and have the time for studying, AP Physics should be okay. My son is a junior currently taking four AP classes including AP Calc BC and AP Physics (but not AP Chem) and is handling it. There are a few students taking two AP science courses and are having a more difficult time. They are wishing they took one AP science junior year and the other senior year. Good luck!
Since you’re strong in languages, I would also strongly recommend you take AP English language. It’s one of the most fundamental Ap’s because it impacts all other subjects.
For US history, you could take honors rather than AP, it’d be okay.
If you take AP English Lang, AP Calc, and AP Chem, that’d be enough, but if you want to push it you could take one more (either AP physics 1 or AP USH). I would stick with the 3 AP’s above and take Honors History and Regular Physics.
That being said, clearly, AP physics 1 would be more rigorous than Regular Physics, and therefore would prepare you better for AP physics C IF you wanted to take it. You could also take another science instead of AP Physics C, depending on what broad field interests you in college.
