I was wondering what the requirements at your school are to take an AP class. At my school, for the all the APs you have to have at least a 93 to even be considered for the class, plus you have to have high PSAT grades as well. Also, if you take the AP Class are you required to take the exam, at my school you have to take the exam no matter what.

My school requires you have a b in that subject, and get a teacher reccomendation (not like a letter, just saying that you're "qualified").

And you are required to take the exam, and get at least a three.

At my school anyone can take the class and the test is absolutely free. Interpret that however you want, it can be good and bad according to your position.

What do they do if you don't?

for us, almost any1 can take it, unless like ur taking an AP science class w/o taking that class but in a regular class...lol

we have 2 take the test at the end of the school year, and if we dont, then it wont be counted as an AP class and there won't be any weight on it..not htat bad :D

I wish my school was like that.

Anyone can get into an AP class (really dumbs it down), anyone can take the test if they wanna pay the $82. Teacher's don't care if you get a 1. I'm sure they'd prefer if you didn't, but nothing happens. And it DOES happen, sadly.

nebody can take the class
pay for the test but the teachers have high standards and they expect u to pass the ap test

Previous year teacher must recommend you in that discipline.

At my school in general you have to be recomended, but if you want to fight with the school it'll do anything. The administration doesn't really care about the students and teacher pay is 2nd lowest in the state (Florida) so obviously some teachers are somewhat apathetic. We use FCAT grades instead of an at least somewhat legitimate analytical test like the SAT/PSAT because, well . . . thats what we think is best in this state for some odd reason, I guess.

most schools will allow jus about any1 to get in

but that's cuz, i mean jus think about it, if the AP gives a certain amount of scores 2 a percentage of ppl, like only a certain amount would get a 5,4,3,etc but if all the dumb ppl take it, then they will be the 1s getting ones, and that helps every1 who is not dumb (sry if im offending u) to get a higher grade on teh AP

Wow, using FCAT scores to get into an AP class. Quite depressing. steve10c , I guess your school is as obsessed with FCAT as mine.

But, unfortunately, there are basically NO regulations to get into an AP class. They want EVERYONE to be in there (even those not capable of the rigor), so you just get a teacher signature when you sign up for classes and you're good. Which doesn't work well, my APUSH class last year had about 35 people in it...about 28-30 of which shouldn't have eben in there. They weren't ready for the commitment. They complained the entire year about the difficulty of the class and "how much work it was." What did they expect a college level class to be like?

Our school pays for all your exams, most teachers require you to take the exam. Some won't let you. My AP Eng teacher won't let you take it if your grade is below a C in her class.

At our school you need a teacher to recommend you for an AP class, but if the teacher rejects you, all you have to do is have your parent talk with the guidance counselor to get you in.

My friend took AP Chem in 9th grade without getting a teacher recommendation or without taking Chemistry Honors before, and still got a 4 on the test.

My school doesn't require anything except for Music Theory and Art.

Just as well, most delinquents drop out in the first 3 days anyhow.

We have qualifying tests for almost every AP class. The top scorers get in, as many as they are willing to create new classes for. Some subjects only have one class. You also need a good grade in related classes in previous years and a teacher rec. Note, though, that we do not really have Pre-AP type classes, esp in the sciences. You typically only take bio, chem, and physics once, the AP in place of your required science for that year. The result? 96% passing rate, with tons of 5s. Is it better to be exclusive and get better results or let everyone in? I don't know. They're starting to open more classes, so we'll see what happens. And we're required to take the exams.

In my school, only 6 girls are in AP Lang and Comp out of 90, I really wanted to take it and was willing to do the work but they denied me for some reason despite the fact that I had 90s in English freshman and sophmore year, oh well I'll just take AP Lit next year.

I remember trying really hard to get into AP US History

-First, I had to talk to my sophomore history teacher about getting into AP
-Then, I had to interview the AP US History teacher TWICE (who was pretty intimidating)
-I had to submit a sample of my writing to him (a 7 page essay on the history of anti-Semitism) and basically wait for another 2 weeks until I heard the verdict
-Since I wasn't in Honors English that put me in a difficult situation even though I had an "A" for the two semesters in College Prep English
-I wanted to prove myself so badly to this teacher that I told him over and over again that I could handle the workload and that I was really interested in History
-And then I GOT INTO my DREAM CLASS!

Making the cut was a blessing for me, I almost felt like dying and going to heaven when I got accepted. Although to be honest, I was the only one not from English Honors or AP World History to get in, but did extremely well in the class. Out of the 27 people who took the class, 19 passed. I scored a "4," which was dissapointing but I'm planning to retake it in college for my major

There are over 100 kids in my (public school) class of 500 in AP US Gov. How pathetic.

Pass the class or the test? Because my APUSH class had about 30 people take the test, and only 2 got a 3 or lower, and the class didn't have any entry requirements.

how do you find out how well your class did on the ap test, short of asking each person?

I dont think my school has any requirements for ap tests (except for foreign languages)
