Ap scholar award

How impressive is an AP Scholar award when applying to colleges and universities? Is it hard to obtain? Does everyone who receives a 3 or better on 3 or more AP Exams receive this award? Is it even worth noting?

From what I’ve heard, the AP Scholar awards are kind of meh. There are different levels of them, but I don’t know if they’re all that prestigious. I mean, I’m supposedly a “national AP Scholar” but they mailed me a cheap certificate on regular paper, and I only found out after I’d already gotten into college. If you already have one of those awards when you’re applying, though, then it wouldn’t hurt to mention it in your application.

By the looks of it anyone who studies super hard can get this award. Still it looks good if you receive another level besides the general Scholar.

IMO, how impressive it is depends on the level of award and your grade when you achieved it.

College Board produces a report called AP Scholar Data. The 2013 data was recently published. The spreadsheet is the last report listed. [AP Program Participation and Performance Data 2013 | Research and Development](http://research.collegeboard.org/programs/ap/data/participation/2013)

For example, in NC in 2013 there were 14,574 AP Scholars. However, only about 5000 earned in 11th grade, and of these just under a 1000 were AP Scholars with Distinction and only 57 were National AP Scholars. For some states, the numbers are much higher and others, much lower.

Regardless, you should list it on your academic honors on the Common Ap or other application.
