AP Scholar Awards

uh-oh, that changes things, im not sure if they are cumulative or not. arg well either way im a scholar with honor, not bad

My perspective is... if they aren't cumulative, then wow, i really respect the National AP Scholars... 8 or more AP's with 4's or 5's??? WOW.

my older brother did that...still not sure if its cumulative and he's sleeping right now

It is cumulative. All tests you've taken count no matter when you took them.

That's refreshing to know. Is there any proof as to that fact? :) The AP website isn't thorough enough... I've heard from kids that it's only for THAT YEAR, rather than cumulative.

It is cumulative - I'm a junior now and I'm an AP scholar - took one AP test freshman year and two last year.

As for State - I definitely won't get it this year, unfortunately - I don't think I will have taken enough. I'm aiming for National by the end of this year - which is definitely achievable - and then I'll have it for my apps senior year.

And since it's cumulative ... maybe I'll be an overachiever and go for State by the end of senior year? I dunno. Someone in NJ is bound to beat me.

The awards are defintiely cumulative. My sone just got the National AP Award after taking six exams in his sophomore year and four in his freshman year. So you can see the only way he gets eight tests to qualify for National is by combining the tests from both years.

There was a long CC thread in July/August about the AP State Scholar awards and how many tests it toook to win in different states. That thread is probably the best place to look for information of what it takes to win in any given state. But it definitely does vary from year to year.

Texas137 ~ Congratulations to your son!

Definately cumulative.

Reasonabledad - good luck to your son going for state scholar next year! He's off to a great start.

Thank you! He's got a shot at it, but we'll see.

how many do you need for New York do you think?

I have nine now, national ap scholar.

I guess it wont even matter since ill be in college if i do get it...

Today in S's school monthly newsletter he's listed as an AP Scholar, but he hasn't received any official notification.

When are we supposed to recieve notification on AP Scholars?

I've taken 4 APs...3 of which I recieved 5s on, and a 4 on the other...what criteria do you need to qualify?

janeeyre, The criteria for the various AP scholar awards are given on the College Board website. You would qualify for the "AP Scholar with Honor" designation. For that you need to have received a score of 3 or higher on 4 or more exams, with an average grade of at least 3.25 on all exams.

Notification was supposed to occur in "mid to late November" according to the website. Several CC members have indicated they have been notified over the past few days but my son is still waiting.

I'm still waiting too
