I'm from Jersey and I got AP Scholar Award like 3 or 4 days ago... I think... if my memory serves me right

Yay, got my National AP Scholar award today. They sent me an AP Scholar with Distinction award too...

How rare is this thingy for current seniors?

By the way, I live in Southern California.

Hm. I'm in NJ and haven't received mine yet.
I have:
Biology 5
Chemistry 5
Physics C Mech 5
Calculus BC 5
Statistics 5
CompSci AB 3
Five 5's and One 3...Isn't that AP Scholar with Distinction?

yea streetlight, it's definitely an ap scholar with distinction.

ubercollegeman: with the old requirements for 1/2 year and full year courses, an ap national scholar used to be extremely rare for seniors (like 80-90 seniors in the nation would receive it). with the new changes i guess a lot more seniors will get the award.

if i don't get it by monday, should I call the collegeboard?

I'm not sure how rare it is, but I got it as well.

I actually had the same # of tests as the guy who won state scholar from Nebraska, but he had a higher average :(

azmodan, that was my cousin. sorry dude, but you've got to be awesome if you take the same amount of tests as he did!

istar, how woudl I go about asking my school for that? lol I'm super cheap. our school offers some "AP" classes (basically a meaningless name - we don't really gear for the AP tests in most subjects). well xcept Physics. physics is da bomb.

I'm gonna self study like 2 - 4 subjects and take 8 - 10 AP exams altogether

In class:
-both english tests
-US History
-Physics
-chemistry

outside class:
-Biology
-comp sci ( hopefully AB if I am prepared)
- possibly geography (already took the class though)
- I may take psychology and statisitcs if it is helpful
- go for economcis or government if I feel suicidal

Any idea how I coudl sell them paying for this to my school? It'd be rela nice to save 400 - 500 dollars (the school pays enough that each person only pays 50 dollars per test)

Yeah. I totally haven't heard anything yet. I have 3 5's (Us Gov, English Language, Euro), 2 4's (US history, Macro), so I should get SOMETHING. Right? Right.

Too bad I didn't realize that I qualified, because I totally would have put it on my apps. Oh well!

JLP - that would make you a scholar w/ distinction. You could still email and ask them to add it if you felt lie your "awards" section was a little thin. But if you had other awards, it isn't like this one adds any info they can't get from looking at your test scores, if youn put them on the app.

Got my National AP scholar award today...i've been waiting for that confirmation for a long time lol. Ubercollegeman: National AP Scholar used to be pretty rare for seniors..however, since this year the collegeboard loosened the requirements, I think more people will get it, thus cheapening the award. I'm kind of mad...i worked really hard for that National AP Scholar...and how its less prestigious. Oh well. Congrats to all! :)

Does anyone know someone who got a AP state scholar award for a state in the midwest?

Yeah I agree too. I worked hard for my National Scholar award also and now so many other seniors got it too.

how about juniors who get AP National Scholar award?

Hey vtran,

What worked really well for me was writing up sort of a mini-proposal for my school. I made up a short document listing the exams I wanted to take, how I would prepare for them, and what benefits the school would see from this (large increase in number of exams taken there, additional scholar awards, etc.). I also indicated that my past performance on AP Exams would predict nothing but success.

In my small HS (class of 168), our AP Coordinator was also the Gifted Support Facilitatory and she responded really well to my request and from there things just started to happen. I'm sure it helped that I knew her pretty well from before, but in any case...

Best of luck to you!

Wow, all we have are deans and guidance counselors.

NJ...still haven't gotten mine :(

I'm in Miami and I recieved my awards on Tuesday - AP National Scholar and AP Scholar with Distinction... Don't know how much they mean, but I suppose it's nice.

Arghh. Still don't have mine in Ohio + I'm starting to get annoyed. A bunch of my friends got theirs.

hey, got mine about a week ago. what school do you go to, fellow miamian?
