I contacted UCLA regarding using the AP score in order to fulfill my IGETC( history....US and European) and they said it is all up to the community college I attend. So, I talked with my community college counselor and she said it all depends on the school I will transferred to. And I said I am hoping to transfer to one of the UC's.

Then, she said, as a community college, she can give me the units for the history classes and then let me use those units on the IGETC. But, she does not know if the UCLA wants to take those units or not. And I told her I already contacted the UCLA regarding this issue. Then, she pulled out a catalogue(ucla one) and pointed out the AP score credit chart and shows me that I would only get the elective units. So, I finally asked her " I am really getting confused. Should I just take the history classes this semester( my last semester) so that I can be on a safe side"

Then, now, her response is "I don't know if you can get credits for those classes because you already took the AP exams, which are equivalent to the history classes at the community college..

NOW I AM COMPLETELY LOST. What should I do?

I think you should send your ap scores to your CC, that way, you get the credits and they appear on your transcript and you see if they fit to be classified for the Igetc

if your CC gives course credit for an exam, and if the course can be used to fulfill IGETC, your score on the exam can be used to fulfill the IGETC requirement. this process has NOTHING to do with UCLA. send your school an official copy of ap scores from collegeboard. when you fill out your IGETC certification form, you put down your ap scores on there.

i've looked at the above mentionned site and it shows that college of letters and science does not accept lot of the ap for gen. ed. req. even if they don't accept ap scores for the gen. ed. req. prescribed by the uc for eligibility does the school accept ap scores used to satisfy igetc?

also, the ccc determines if u have minimum of 60 units right? because they are the ones that send transcript with the ap scores and their units equivalents. what i'm trying to say is that the uc's won't determine whether i have 60 units through their own unit converting rules for ap's, right?

finally, do uc's, in the case in which u are transferring after only two terms completed and thus with only one term of grades from which they could derive ur gpa, look at ap scores as grades?

If I were you...I would just take the classes again. Besides..you don't even know if you are going to get into UCLA for sure or not (unless you have a TAA)...especially as a CC student..i would just be safe rather than sorry. I was like you in the beginning of last quarter and I just took all my courses again. They were easy A's ..& a good review.

IGETC certification is determined by the community college. They may use whatever they can to fulfill those requirements. At the UC level the admissions office may look to see if the IGETC is completed, if needed for admissions, but they do not review how it is certified. In other words, the UC won’t see that the IGETC was certified using college courses, AP Exams or high school courses. The UC campus will then review all your records, including AP scores, and add the appropriate units to your record. I hope this clarifies this situation. Please note that IGETC is not a requirement at the Davis Campus, although for some majors it is strongly recommended and others it is not recommended.
