If I am to apply to schols like ivies, caltech, mit, northwesten, etc., would a score of 3 hurt your chances if you were to send them in?? I just got a score of 3 on 2 of my exams and my brother told me it would hurt my chance of admissions if I was to send in them.

do you have some more 4s and 5s? id say if you have 3 or 4 tests where you got a 4 or 5 just send those and leave the 3s out -- although im not sure it much matters, because they will see you took the AP classes on your transcripts

It won't kill you, one of the seniors got a 2 but still got into Harvard (that was his weak subject and he had one 4, and four 5's).

I have 2 scores of a 4 ( english lang and art history) and 1 score of a 5 (calc AB). I'm going into my junior year so I think I'll be fine. I was just wondering cuz I'm only taking 4 exams next year ( 3 AP and 1 IB) and didn't know how much space is on the application.

I've heard two variations of AP score theory. 1. 3s hurt; 4s are neutral; 5s help. or 2. 3s are neutral; 4s and 5s help. Of course paranoid high school seniors came up with this so I don't really know...

i think it also depends on which subjects you got 3's on. i just got a 3 on french, but im not worried b/c its a hard AP. so if you got 3's on hard APs and you have 4s and 5s to balance, dont worry about it.

ya they weren't hard lol. stats and us govt. I got better scores on the harder APs.

AP scores don't affect your admission. They only come into play when you want to get credit for them. Taking AP matters because it shows to colleges that you can challange yourself and do well. The grade in the class matters - the score doesn't.

So don't worry about it.

Yes, the grade is what is most important. From what I see in my area, AP credits are solely just used to compute college credits if the campus grants such credit and if you include the scores, it generally helps you if its good, but does not hurt you if its bad.

A score of 3, I would put it if it were my application. It's a passing score. If you took an AP class, they probably would notice that you left the score blank, which probably wouldn't hurt you either. It's like, whatever action you take, they will probably understand why you did it. (they either see the score, or know its a low score due to its absence)

lets say you get a B first semester and an A the secon. would a three somewhat discredit me?

To the above:

No.

a 3 doesn't matter too much, plenty of students from my school got 3's on their AP tests and got into top 25 schools, but for the top 5-10 schools it might matter a little bit more, i dont know how a 3 affects you at the very top schools but i'm sure someone on this site knows
