AP scores used in admissions decisions?

I posted previously that I'm worried about my inconsistent AP scores (2 5/s, 2 3's, one 2). I saw on the William & Mary forum that W&M Admissions responded to a question about AP scores with the following statement,

"For purposes of admission, W&M considers the courses you took and the grades you received. AP scores only come into play if we're reviewing a student for a scholarship and even then, plenty of students receive scholarships who do not report or send us any AP exam scores."

I wonder if anyone knows if UVA follows the same policy - e.g. doesn't use AP scores for admission decisions, but only for placement? Does it hurt you if you don't self report AP scores to UVA when you apply?

Thanks for any help you can give!

If you send it, they will look at it and it will affect your admission.

If you don’t send it, then I don’t know what they assume – that you didn’t take it (why not?) or you didn’t do well… Both seem like less than great options? But they won’t KNOW for sure… They can only speculate…

If your school requires you to take AP exams there is a good chance admissions is aware of this. In this situation, not reporting is by default is stating you were not happy with your score.
Talk to your GC and ask how other students who have applied to top universities have handled this.
