AP Scores

I wasn’t sure where to put this so I just went with the Chance Me thread. Anyway, I got my AP scores back and I am a little disappointed with the results: Stats 5, Lang 3, Bio 3. Should I still send my Lang and Bio scores to colleges? I am looking at schools like UMich, MichState (safety), Cornell, Notre Dame, Boston University, Boston College, NYU, Northwestern (reach), Harvard (reach). Also, is there a way to send AP scores to some colleges but not others? Or is it all or nothing? Thanks.

You don’t need to send scores until you matriculate, and even then only if you want credit or placement. You can cancel individual scores, but I believe if you send one score, you send them all.

AP scores are self reported on the Common App. Official scores sent by the College Board are only used for credit or placement as @Lindagaf posts above. Technically, you can self report different AP scores to different colleges by revising your Common App for each submission. You would have to look at each college’s admission website to see if they are even required to be reported (rarely) and if so, if it is all or nothing. If it is optional, then you have to weigh whether reporting them will help or hurt. If you have all 4/5’s or just 1/2’s, it is an easy call. One 5 and two 3’s in my mind is pretty neutral. Just reporting the 5 may also be odd if you have a number of AP courses on your transcript, it may leave the AO wondering. I wouldn’t stress too much about this. AP scores are pretty far down the list of what AO’s consider. If you have strong GPA, SAT/ACT and SAT II scores, the AP scores will just be noise in the admissions process.
