AP Stats Sophomore Year?

Hey guys, I'm kind of new to this forum so correct me if I do something wrong.
But anyways, I'm a freshman this year, and I'm a pretty dedicated student (99 GPA #4 in my class ect.) So anyways next year I have the choice to take AP Stats, per permission of my Math teacher and the AP teacher, however I'm 1 of 3 people allowed to do so. And I want to take it so bad (I love and am excellent at math) but I have kind of a list of Pros and cons to help you guys think about my problem, and following is my class schedule for next year if you see any concerns
1) Chorus
2) AP World History
3) AP Statistics (Yearbook if I drop out)
4) AC Math 2
5) Spanish 2
6) Honors American Literature
7) Honors Chemistry
Pro:
-I have space to take AP Psych Junior year instead of taking Stats
-I will be more prepared to take 4 AP's junior year
-I love math
-my math class is incredibly boring (because its easy)
-my math teacher tells me to go for it

Con:
-I would be the first sophomore to take it at my school (however its only 3 years old)
-I could be overbearing myself with AP World as well
-I'm not sure if I'm fully prepared (my AC math class this year counts for Alg 1 and Half of 2)

So should I take it? If anyone has taken it, would it be easy enough as long as I try hard? Should I do some summer studying to catch up with the rising juniors who are taking it? Any help I could get would be much appreciated! Thanks! :)

AP Stats is very easy if you’re willing to do all the labs and turn them on time (I wasn’t).

But, your background in math might be a problem. I’m not sure I remember all of the course - look it up on the College Board website and see if you think you could work through it (pretend like you’ll be doing it without a teacher).

Hey, welcome to CC!

I would definitely recommend you take AP Stats (I understand your viewpoint as I am also an avid math student). I took the class in 8th grade and got an 5 on the exam. It should be pretty straightforward. Also, I am not sure what engarde is referring to with the labs (I don’t recall turning in "labs) but it should be a pretty fun class. I used 500 Questions to Know by Test Day to prepare for the exam. Also there are some awesome websites which should help you get started with the material (like apstatsmonkey).

I’d take it just b/c your other classes aren’t that tough (world history is one of the easier AP classes imo) and you really dont need a strong b/g in math to do well in stats. n_n

Well if anyone is in the same predicament as me and stumbled upon this post, just know that I am doing just fine with AP World and AP Stats! I’m struggling with AP world, but it’s not because it’s overwhelming with AP Stats. I barely study Stats and I still made a 100 first semester, lol. Good luck to all of you :)

I think you’ll be fine, and it’s definitely going to help you prepare for junior year as well. World is just a little rough for the first few weeks as you get used to the workload and learn how your teacher grades. I’ve gotten the hang of it now, though, and am making a nice A. I haven’t taken Stats yet, but I haven’t heard that it’s too hard, and with your love of math, I think that you’ll even enjoy it.

Good luck! <3

I don’t know what AC math 2 is. My daughter thinks precalculus would be good to have but “you could probably do it with just algebra 2”. At our school, AP world is one of the highest workload classes. Not to say you couldn’t handle it. I’d suggest talking to current students in both AP classes and see what they think about the workload and about how your current math program prepares you for AP stats. Try to get the opinions of top students like yourself because opinions will vary depending on student talent and willingness to work hard.

I would say yes to taking AP Stats. Even though I have no personal experience from it, I’ve heard that it’s really easy to understand. If you’re trying to get into a competitive college or university than this would be ideal over yearbook.
