I have to read Jane Eyre and The Grapes of Wrath over the summer. I happen to like Jane Eyre a lot and I'm only midway through the book. Finally, a book that deserves its praise.

AP LANG

Lincoln

The Color of Water

Utopia

The Color of Water for AP Language? Ugh, I hated that book.

For AP Lit:

Frankenstein
Their Eyes Were Watching God
A Clockwork Orange
Hamlet

I LOVE THE COLOR OF WATER!!! It was such a good book.

I also really liked Their Eyes Were Watching God although some people said they didn't like it b/c of the vernacular (is this how you spell it??).

At my S's school they are trying to weed out those not totally committed:

Frankenstein
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Brave New World
Jane Eyre
Wide Saragasso Sea
The Picture of Dorian Gray

10 2 page papers--compare and contrast--characters--historical events and the movies they inspired etc.

20 journal entries--poetry, song writing, using a pets's perspective and such.

He attended Governor's School for 5 weeks and has worked almost constantly on this stuff ever since.

I think it;s a bit much.

at my school, we have AP English, which prepares you for both language and literature tests.

summer reading is
the color purple, jane eyre, brave new world

and we have to keep an online log of detailed reactions and stuff like that

I'm not taking AP English until my junior year, but for Honors English I have to read Phantom of the Opera

AP English

Life and Times of Michael K - J.M. Coetzee
Death in Venice - Thomas Mann

i've only read one book so far! I better pick up the pace.

Same here!

I am only about 1/3 through "As I lay Dying" by Faulkner, and I have to write a paper along with it. I have yet to start "Utopia" by thomas moore and "the prince" by machiavelli. Fortunately for me, they are short and can be read in a day or two.

For Ap lit we have to read Fountainhead,Native Son, Merchant of Venice or HenryVI and watch either of the plays in theater and write a paper on it.

I personally loved the Fountainhead.

read Brave New World for Honors Brit. Lit last year.

did you like Brave New World? A fast read?

AP English Lit:
A Clockwork Orange (my favorite summer reading book of all time)
The Things They Carried

AP Lit:

Frankenstien and A Chronicle of a Death Foretold...not my favorite

AP ENG III

death of a salesman (excellent)

I'm only about 2/5 through Pride and Prejudice and have only read one scene from Hamlet. I haven't even started the notebooks we have to make for them. But I have a month.
