I am a prospective student at UD. I plan to take the AP English Literature and AP US History tests in May because I know Dayton takes those for credit, but I was wondering if anyone knows if UD takes the AP Psychology test for class credit? I plan on being a political science major, so I will probably not need any psych classes in college. Should I take the AP Psych test or not?

Yeah, I would recommend taking it. All students are required to take pre-requsites for their major. I currently go here and I am a communications major. Students are required to take 2 101 level courses in either psychology, sociology, anthropology, or political science. It is much better to come to college with extra credits. Most of the AP courses should transfer over. Having extra credits will definitely come in handy here. It will allow you to move along faster. For example, you may be exempt from taking history 101 if you score a 4 or higher on your AP exam. This happened to me. I did not have to take history 101. My AP credit covered that course. I moved into History 103, which is also a graduation requirement. Also, when it comes time for you to register for classes for your spring semester, the more credit hours you have, the earlier you can register for classes. This comes in handy when you are trying to take classes that fill up quickly or you want to get the best teacher!

It may not be required for your major but there will undoubtedly be some sort of social science requirement for which PSY 101 is the base. I’m not sure if you’ll be able to view this link but here are the requirements for a major in poli sci:

Also, @nyc… History 103 is the first level of history classes at UD. All students must take it (along with REL 103 and PHL 103) unless they are exempt with AP credit or are in CORE.

As a side note… I see you’re from West Chester! I grew up in Fairfield.

yes it counts so definitely take it! I am a psych major and it got me out of my intro level class. since you’ll be a social science major it looks good on your high school transcript to be taking social science courses
