I want to do some self-study, but I want to know when AP tests are offered. I'd rather do the studying over the summer when I have more time, but if the test is only offered at the end of the school year then I might have some trouble recalling the material.

So basically, I'm wondering about the best time to study for APs. Over the summer or during the school year with other coursework?

I'd appreciate it if you could also give suggestions as to which APs tend to be easier to grasp without the actual class.

APs are only offered in May, with some make-ups in June. Since that is so, I would recommend studying throughout the year, since it would be hard to remember the stuff you learned in the summer! Although you can certainly get a head start in the summer and slow it down during the school year.

As for self-study, the general rule of thumb is to select the subject you are best at. I also found it helpful to be in a non-AP class that dealt with the same material, just not in as much detail- I was in an Honors Global Class and took AP Euro (5).

So what do you like and what classes are you taking? That may narrow down into a nice AP self-study.

I tend to do best in science and math, but I do very well in all subjects. My school has a full range of APs, but the downside is that all of them have pre-reqs (Eg. to take AP Physics, one must complete regular/honors Physics).

Next year, I plan on loading up on: BC Calc, AP Spanish, AP English, AP US. Those classes would be additional to the mandatory Physics class, Gym, and Lunch period. So that leaves me with two free periods.

With those two periods, I'm deciding between taking AP Psychology and AP Stat, or just taking AP Bio (two period long class). I was thinking if AP Psych and Stat are easy to self-study, then I can make my life a little easier by taking 5 APs instead of 6 while reaping the benefits of 7.

The options that I have to self-study: AP Political Science, AP Stat, AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology. Others I will take because they replace required courses or they may be too hard to self-study.
