AP Tests Affecting Admissions to Colleges?

Do colleges look at your AP scores to help your chances at admissions? I self-reported my AP scores for APUSH, Calculus AB, and Psychology on my applications (5,5,4, respectively) but I heard that it has close to no impact on my chances of getting in. I’m worried because I received a C in Calculus AB but I want to show that I still was proficient enough in the subject to earn a five. Will the admissions office take into consideration my AP scores for admissions or was self reporting for nothing?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Yes it should help to show proficiency, but not your GPA. You said you self reported it ? I think it would be good if you officially sent that score. Good luck, and don’t stress out too much

What you did is right. Nothing else to do now. Only send official score to the school where you enroll.

They will take note of your scores, but they will not make or break admission. It’s always a good idea to report high scores on AP tests. Your C in An AP class isn’t ideal, but your good score on the actual test will probably be noticed. It won’t make them forget the C, but they will possibly (depending on your other grades and course rigor) not view it too harshly. It’s hard to say though. If you are talking tippy top schools, it might work against you, given other comparable applicants. What’s done is done. You do the best with what you have.

Only for some schools or for homeschooled applicants, AP scores may be used in admission. In most cases, it has very low value in admission evaluation directly. Nevertheless, they may use your self-reported test score to check the grading scale of your school. If you get an A but a score of 2, they may think your grade is inflated.

@billcsho So is the reverse true also? Does a grade of C but 5 on AP exam, for example, suggest grades are deflated? I have a hard time with those speculations.

Not necessarily. A student can be supremely lazy and warrant the C, but does great at cramming for exams.

Or, the teacher can teach poorly which may result in a lower grade, and the student still have the capacity to learn the AP concepts and do well on the exam - lots of permutations.

Or the student does not care about homework.

Have indeed sent those scores. Thanks for the input!

Do I send those scores before hand or do I only do that once I am accepted?
