Hi guys I have just been promoted to 12th class CBSE and have a question regarding AP exams. The thing is,I'm not sure whether I should give them or not. There's hardly any time left and I don't think I'll be able to self study calc BC by may. I plan
to major in engineering and have 800 on the math level 2 and a 2200 SAT score. I hope to get 800 on the phy and chem sat 2 as well. Will not giving AP exams decrease my chances of being accepted at a college? If not then I can take them next year as I'll still get credit.I had 9.6 gpa in 10th and 77% in class 11th.

While appearing for the Advanced Placement exams isn’t mandatory for admission to undergraduate institutions in the US, doing so would demonstrate your interest in a particular subject(s) and can greatly improve your chances. I personally am appearing for a total of 5 AP exams this year, and 5 next year, because I am a homeschooler and these tests are the only way for me to demonstrate my academic aptitude. Be aware, however, that not appearing for the AP exams will not, in any way, hamper your admission chances. Admission committees stress on taking the most rigorous curriculum offered at your high school. If you are doing that, you should be fine. You have good SAT 1 and SAT II scores. Your class 11 grades are slightly on the lower side but if you are in the top 10% of your class, it won’t be a problem. You can still take the AP exams next year but since you would have already applied to and heard back from universities by then, it won’t make much of an impact on your admission decisions. As far as credit is concerned, you might want to check with the colleges you have in mind because many colleges are doing away with or making drastic changes to their AP credit policies.

^Thanks, that clears things up a bit. I don’t really know my class rank but I think I should be in top 10-15%.I have decided to take 2 AP exams this year and 3 next year. As for rigorous curriculum,my school has standard PCM classes for those who take science but yes they are fairly rigorous,in accordance with CBSE.
