I feel like this is a silly question and wishful thinking but are there any AP tests that you could pass and do reasonably well on without taking a class?

I'm not talking about just taking a test blind, but buying a review book and actually taking a decent amount of time to prepare and learn the topic before going in?

I could think that possibly the humanities and history APs as well as the english ones could be possible this way, but I'm just guessing.

Any thoughts? I was unable to take any APs besides Lit and Calc AB this year because of some stubborn classes that could be rescheduled, and I was wondering if I could do a little independent study situation.

I'm usually a pretty strong student when it comes to english, literature and history, and the only AP test I've taken so far is Psychology and I got an easy 5 on it, just to give a bit of an idea.

If you choose something you are good at and are interested in, you definitely have a chance of passing, if you study.

Both english tests were fairly easy, in my opinion, but if you're taking AP Lit, there may not be much use in taking AP language (depending on the college). AP US History was the only history AP test I took. I thought it wasn't bad at all, but then I had a good AP teacher. My sister will be self-studying for it this year, though, as the class didn't fit into her schedule. She's good at history, and really enjoys it, so I think she's going to do well.

I self-studied for chemistry and physics B, and passed both (4 and 5, respectively), but I'm a math and science person.

APUSH is decent if you are good at history. I didn't really study much all year, got straight A's. Then, the day before the exam i read the entire review book the school provided and got a 5. I think it had a lot to do with that reading since I seriously saw 15ish MC questions I wouldn't have known without that.

I'm doing AP Comp Govt independent study this year. It's going well so far. If you like government and politics it is REALLY interesting, I'm enjoying it. (If you decide to do it, I have a textbook I'd recommend)

Just definitely make sure you are interested in it if you want to do independent study.

I've only been through a few chapters (obviously since it's 7 weeks into school), but it is by far one of the best textbooks I've had, mostly because he makes it easy to understand and relates everything to what is going on today. If you really like government/politics, this is a great course. The book's divisions also make it easy to follow the AP course guides, even by yourself. I'm really excited =).

My S took AP US Gov & AP Env Sci via independent study. He borrowed some review books from the library & looked at the review books at the bookstore. He also looked at the review books for other subjects but figured for him that those tests would be easiest to add to the APs he was taking in connection with AP classes. He found subject matter & exams for both easy & got 5s on both.

I did this with stats last year. I started cramming a week before the test and ended up with a 4. Hoped for a 5, but it wasn't bad for a week's prep. Self-studying is definitely possible if you're determined and study well with practice books/textbooks.

How would self study AP exams affect admissions?
I self studied AP Chem last year and got a five, this year I prepare to self study AP Computer Sci A and AP Calc AB. (junior now)

whatever ur good at then self-study for that area for the ap test
i really dont recommend self studying for the sciences, maybe bio, cuz u really do need a teacher to guide u through it
but its w/e u want

Anything you're good at should be pretty easy enough to self study. And from what I've heard, Human Geography, Psychology, and Statistics all seem to be managable to self study, even if math / social studies isn't really your best subject.

I got a 5 on the AP Lang/Comp without taking the class. I didn't study either, our school just requires all juniors to take it who are in honors.

AP Bio is pretty easy to self-study for esp if you have CliffsAP book... it's pure memorization... I would be hesitant to study AP PHYSICS or something without guidance though AP CALCULUS is v. doable

---someone who self-studied AP CALC and had an AP ENGLISH CLASS that was easier than whtever I did in junior high
