Okay, two books for review is not necessary; the good thing about having two prep books is you can take practice tests for both tests.
As someone who got a 5/800, both tests were equally difficult. In my opinion, AP has more centuries-old hard questions, but the SAT has more specific questions.

i got a 5 on the AP and a 790 on the June SAT II.... i found the sat to be much easier, the AP asked many obscure questions about random authors and movements and movements while the SAT covered more mainstream stuff.

On the AP, i found a good number of the multiple choice puzzling, on the SAT II, I found the questions to be direct and simple. Since I had a REALLY good AP teacher, I did not use a prep book for either test....in fact, i did not study at all for the SAT, hope that helped

For me, the SAT was harder. I think that's because it seemed to cover the time periods I didn't cover in depth in class. I liked the AP essays because they were about stuff that I knew really well. The SAT asked random specific questions that are hard to figure out if you didn't study it specifically. Like the random painting of a soup can? lol.

the soup can was a modern piece of culture and the tests do cover american culture; however, if they get into the modern era, the questions tend to be much easier since they know that its something you probably did not study and if you know it, you picked it up on your own. For example, the AP test had a really easy question about Bill Clinton's administration; however, if you know nothing about modern history you would not have known it

I hate Andy Wharhol

S2: 770, 5 AP. He thought the AP was easier, but he's a big-ideas guy. He LOVED the essays and FRQ. He was disappointed he didn't get the 800, as this is his subject.

He agreed that if you pay attention to current events/read a bit, the modern history Qs were pretty easy. I don't think his class got that far, but he knew them all just from watching the news and such.

who's he? lol

I agree, SAT II US History is a lot easier. I was not prepared for it at all because I changed my mind at the last minute (from Japanese w/Listening --> US History), but still managed to get a 650.

Another 770 SATII & 5 AP

My strong point is writing, so I usually will do better on an AP exam. I thought MC was very similar in both tests. AP did focus more on the "big picture" and culture though.

AMSCO is still a MUST on either test. I know I would have not scored this high on either exam without it. Pageant stays in memory only so long...

5 AP .. 710 SAT II

if i would have studied as hard as i did for the AP test as i did for the subject test then i probably would have gotten 750+. kind of disappointed about that.

5 apush, 800 sat II

5 apush, 800 SAT

just pwn the multiple choice and you'll get that too

5 and 720. The essays definitely bailed me out.

S had Pageant for his textbook, too, but the only review he did for either AP or SAT-II was using AMSCO. Good investment.

wow i'm a bloody retard
800 and a 4........how is this possible??!?!?!??!?!

The AP test is harder because of the essays. If you're only talking about the MC, they're generally the same. I thought the AP test had a few more obscure questions, but that probably just depends on what you're class focuses on.

yea i agree. the ap this year sucked for me.
i don't know what to say or do... i'm kind of in a dump right now :(

i had a lot harder time with the SATII than i did with the AP (but i also studied a lot harder for the AP and stupidly took the SATII in june instead of may, so...)
