AP US History: would it be worth it?

I'm a junior, and I plan to major in International Relations.
I'm taking 3 foreign language AP's (French, Spanish, Italian). I got a 5 on my French last year, and I'll get a 5 on the other ones, I speak them both fluently. I am also taking this year European History and World History, and I am aiming for a 5 at both, I'm really good at history. I also plan on taking both AP Micro and AP Macro next year, as well as AP Engl. Language. I have my doubts on Comp Gov't since I'll have to take it independently, but I think I will. I will also take AP Statistics, since I need it to get the AP Int'l Diploma, and some colleges like AU require math, which you are exempted from even if you get a 3 in Stats.

My question is: should I take AP US History? It'll be a lot of work next year, and I know that some colleges like Tufts don't give you credit for the third History AP, but do you think it's worth it?

If you are going to take the AP class, or even an honors class, then I would recommend taking the test. If you take regular US History, you can take the test with some indp study. If taking the test means that you would have a lot of indp study (eg, you have never taken US History at any time) then you probably shouldn't do it, given what else you have on your plate.

I have never taken any kind of US history class, this is only my second year at an american school (I come from the french system), but there is actually going to be an AP US History class in my school next year (they are adding like 3 AP's for next year). What do you say then, should I?

P.S: lol my school is crazy, it's a high school of 90 people, but we are going to have like 18 AP's next year.

If I were you, I wouldn't. You do have a lot on your plate, and APUSH isn't something you can cram for. You can't BS on the essays and DBQs. I despised APUSH, but I despise history in general. It's too much to be one of those classes you add as an afterthought.

I think you should take it. You said that you are good at history, and personally, I don't think that APUSH is that difficult, it just requires a lot of memorization but thats it. Good Luck :)

If you find the other AP tests easy then I think that AP US. I loved the exam and with the amsco book I got a 4. if you want the AP US exam then study with the amsco book.

I talked to my AP Euro and AP World teacher and he said that I should only take one of the US exams, so I guess I'll take US Gov't instead, 7 AP's is a lot for one year, and plus I really dislike the teacher for US History lol, but I'll talk to my counselor and to the actual US History teacher, see what they say.

It all depends on personal preference. If history is a topic you enjoy, I would encourage you to take it - you'll retain the information more readily, obviously, than someone who despises the subject.

Just realize that the multiple choice questions on the exam are rather lenient. If I recall, I left about 10 questions blank and I still received a 5.

I had a love-hate relationship with APUSH. On one side, I stayed up until ungodly hours of the night trying to finish a chapter, study for a test, or write a practice DBQ. But by the end of the year, it was amazing to look back on all I'd learned. And of course, it doesn't hurt to be exempt from taking two core history courses in college! :)
