I'm a sophomore in high school and I am thinking about taking Honors US History next semester and this summer online. My junior year I would like to take AP Euro History and that would be my only social studies class. I took AP Human my freshman year (got a 3) and I'm in AP World this year, which is much harder compared to Human Geo.

Is this a good idea? They actually did not offer AP Euro this year at my school, because there wasn't enough kids who signed up. Though, they did offer it last year and years before. So, I may end up taking Honors US History for no reason. I won't be able to find out if they offer it, until May! And I would start taking classes for US History in January. I'm really more intrested in AP Euro and I have no room to take it with AP US History. I'm planning on taking Journalism and Acting next year for my electives and French II online. I would like to have a career in either journalism or acting, so it would be stupid not to take it.

Would it look bad if I don't take AP US History? I would just take AP Euro instead and actually have an extra honors class on my transcript. US History is required to graduate at my school.

There is something else to consider. One of the two AP US History teachers taught me AP Human Geo. He likes me and he is a good teacher and I think I would get a good recommendation for college. But there is a chance I wouldn't even get him, so that's something to consider.

Any feedback? Thank you!

do AP U.S. History and AP European History, the more AP’s the merrier and they’re great classes

Like I was saying, I cannot take both. I don’t have room for both classes. I can take Honors US History online and AP Euro History OR AP US History.

Even though I got a 5 in AP Euro and I really like European History, I feel like (as a student), the topics jumped all over the place. One second I’m reading about England, then the next I’ll be reading about Prussia or Italy.

I’m taking APUSH right now, and I feel a sense of “continuity” from one chapter to the next.

I may take AP Euro my senior year then, we’ll see.

Well, you may want to see which is a “good” teacher for you. For instance, you can love the subject but get a not-so-good teacher :(, which will make you suffer, as it did with my friend. So you may want to ask your friends and see which teacher fits your personality. I had APUSH and had an awesome teacher, so I’m kinda biased, lol. Good luck to ya.

There is two APUSH teachers. I had one of them for AP Human Geo and I like him and I would think he would give me a good recomendation. Though, I could always get the other teacher who teaches more APUSH classes. The other APUSH teacher also teaches AP Euro History, but didn’t this year because there wasn’t enough people who signed up for it.

I got a 3 in Human Geo and it was my first AP. I think I would be better at US History though, then World History and Human Geo.

If I were in your position, I would choose the one that you had already (at my school, you can request teachers after schedules go out, so not sure about your school), since I know what types of tests he gives and kinda what to expect. But it’s completely up to you. It just makes classes more enjoyable? The happier you are, the better you do!

Then again, it would be nice to have new experience with another teacher/class.

You cannot ask for a specific teacher at my school. That’s the problem! I know how the teacher works and I know what to expect. I heard the other APUSH teacher teaches way different.

It Depends…

I know that I went from US Honors to AP Euro. Trust me you will adjust very quickly. The work load will be nice and plenty, but thats part of AP. I say it depends because of the teacher. I was able to adapt to ap style writing quickly with my essay. You need to learn the skills such as Essay and DBQ if your honors teacher dont cover them. Otherwise you will be fine. The MC is more difficult than Honors of course. Most of the time it will require critical thinking. But usually you can narrow it down to 2 choices…

Good Luck!

Thanks! I think I am going to take AP Euro my senior year. I want to take Physics online, so I can have an extra elective next year. I will take AP US though.
