My son’s school (fairly highly ranked) has both IB and AP. However, AP is the more extensive and science-rich program (~20 courses vs. ~9). Even though there is an IB diploma available, the only STEMish classes in IB are Math SL, Biology SL, and Economics SL/HL. So, kids who want the most rigorous load take mostly AP and dual-enrollment and maybe an IB class that matches a particular interest or to finish up their foreign language (though sometimes the 4th year language class is taught as both IB and AP somehow).
